If I ever wanted to have sex with CGI then I'd keep this movie on my list. Other than that it has got to be terrible.

Is it still cool to hate on CGI?

Considering most heavy CGI movies have terrible plot and actors yes.  Only heavy CGI movie that had decent plot would be Avatar and the plot of that movie can be considered stupid.  I'm going to find biggest dragon and jump on its back to mate with its tube and become one with it!  Oh yea!

King of the Monsters has some pretty good actors actually, but yeah, definitely a terrible plot. You're not supposed to care about the script in this film, so if you do, then it's definitely not for you, but the movie, and certainly the CGI, has some value. I was really impressed with how they managed to give these monsters so much personality without a single line of dialogue, and I think critics in general don't give enough credit to that.

And really, what big blockbuster these days isn't CGI heavy? I know what you're trying to say here, with main characters being CGI and all, but I mean, you look at behind-the-scenes footage of any current big Hollywood movie and it's always green screens galore. And I'm totally okay with that, honestly.

What I'm saying is hollywood could barely make a decent movie these days.  All of it is all fluff no substance.  Where are movies like Big Lebowski anymore?  They don't exist because they arent superhero cgi shit movies that are made for people with one brain cell that expect all special effects with a shart stain of something one used to call plot.

Hmm... yeah, okay.

Good night.

The truth hurts.  If you had a valid counter argument then you would have stated it.  Movies are in a sad state right now and there is no denying it.  As for Godzilla I had some fun watching old movies mainly to make fun of them but they were never ground breaking.  They are kind of like Rampage.  Mediocre video game but with grinding that comes addicting till about the same stage 100 times into game.  You just keep playing because there is nothing else better to do with your time.  Let me know when hollywood actually puts out a movie worth seeing because your talking to someone that thinks even new Star Wars movies are stupid.  Give me something like The Departed or Netflix show Peaky Blinders then I'm interested.  You see why Hollywood gave up?  Rather than try live up to high standards they cater to lowest common denominator.  That's why terrible movies exist because there are terrible people.

Yeah that was something I really liked too. Especially with Ghidorah, despite him being neither able to speak nor even having humanoid features, they conveyed a great sense of evil and viciousness through the way he was animated.

What makes a good Godzilla movie versus a bad Godzilla movie?

Are you asking because KOTM has a 45% on Rotten Tomatos?

Reviewers/Critics are a joke.

I saw one reviewer who reviewed both movies and his 2014 review complained that there was too much human drama and not enough Godzilla. His review for this movie was too much monsters and not enough Human Drama.

I have found some reviewers love companies or actors/actresses and become extremely biased towards them. My thoughts on this movie are that critics are die hard in love with that Millie girl and thus if she isn't in like 90% of the scenes they are upset.

I can definitely say if this movie is less Humans and more of the main stars, I am all in. This is a movie about big monsters finding a reason to get together and talk over their issues by smashing each other in the face. All the human element is needed is for them to be set pieces and hopefully not get in the way to much. I rarely look to critics for movies like this because they are always looking for something I am totally not caring about. If this movie tries to give character to the main actors of the movie instead of the humans then I would say the directors got it right.

You can tell they took to heart criticism of the 2014 film not giving Godzilla enough screentime, he gets a lot more exposure this time.

As a fan of the series I also loved how many little references, Easter eggs, and homages to the classic films there were throughout the movie; (series/movie spoilers) from the

Spoiler!
twin female scientists studying Mothra referencing the twin fairies of the old films, the inclusion of the Oxygen Destroyer, Ghidorah losing a head like he does in the 1991 and 2004 films, Godzilla's "burning" form only previously seen in 1995, the remix of Godzilla's original musical theme by Akira Ifukube, the heroes having a super-plane, Mothra sacrificing herself and passing on her essence to revive a fallen ally, the Monarch outpost numbers being the years that the monsters they guarded debuted

Plus I'm sure there's others I missed.

The filmmakers clearly did their research and watched the old movies extensively.

This movie was amazing. It was so ridiculous and over the top, I loved it! If you want a film that will just keep you on the edge of your seat, just grab on to you and never let go, and just entertain the hell out of you, I'd say watch this film. There was filler human drama in between, but the pace just kept on going really fast that I didn't mind at all.
I felt like I was watching Godzilla: Final Wars but in steroids and MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL.

My only major complaint about this is that they put in too many human characters and most of them don't even get any development at all. (I especially found the twins story to be such a wasted potential). I mean yes, we're focusing on the Kaijus so why put so many supposedly important human characters then?

I'll have to see it again to decide for sure, (and I plan to this weekend) but as a fan, I feel like this film earns a spot in my top 5 Godzilla films, which is saying something as there are now 34 of the bloody things. XD

I never understood this "too much humans" argument in kaiju films. Human characters are pretty central to the plot of Godzilla movies and kaiju movies in general. Steph Cozza actually posted a review where she complained about humans in the movie and actually compared it to the humans in the Transformers films:

Nevermind that the Transformers can actually talk and move the plot forward just fine without humans, hence humans don't even need to be IN the Transformers films (!), unlike kaiju in kaiju flicks.

FFS, do they really expect 90+ minutes of kaiju fighting with little plot? Do these people even know how budgeting works and how expensive that shit would be given the CGI of the kaiju in this movie? FFS, KotM cost $170 mil (it needs in the ballpark of $450-500 mil just to break even) given the screentime that they were actually given, which this movie DID give us more kaiju fights/action this time around, fuckin' A.

There's just no pleasing some people.

PS, I thought the movie was great. Even the human characters were more interesting this time around.
