Forums - Politics Discussion - Official 2020 US Election: Democratic Party Discussion

From where I sit, Bloomberg basically seems like a Bush-era "Never Trump" Republican who I'm guessing is running as a Dem b/c it's likely his best chance of going against him. (just ask Joe Walsh where running against him as a Republican gets you). May be relatively (marginally) more liberal, but seems like just another Neoliberal centrist to me. And supporting the Patriot Act and Bush's bs war in Iraq? No thanks.

Dude is buying his way for a top spot but at some point you need actual support from actual people and I don't see any of that yet.. If he's Bernie's "final challenger" it would have to take an incredible amount of rigging and manipulation to somehow get him over the top past Bern.

Bloomberg has donated literally hundreds of millions of dollars to climate change and gun control initiatives, to compare him to your average Republican is inane. Try to picture Trump or the Koch brothers doing the same.

In the European Union, he would be your typical ALDE party member.

Don't forget that Trump was a democrat for a long time.  People like them (Bloomberg and Trump) waft in the political wind that that curries to their favor the most.  Why else run for NYC mayor 3 times as a Republican?

Back then the parties weren't exactly what they are now. That doesn't say a lot. The twilight of the DIxiecrats and the Rockfeller Republicans is a relatively new phenomenon. Post-Obama election, even.

I swear to God, if we get a Republican vs another Republican I won't even bother voting.

Holy shit! He backed fucking TOOMEY? That motherfucker! No, just no! I can't vote for that! I can NOT vote for a Toomey supporter! That's disgusting! I wanted to be blue no matter who, but while I could vote for Biden, I could not vote for Bloomberg.

Just checked the Wikipedia article about him, and couldn't find anything special apart from the usual republican stuff.

On the other hand, it is the usual republican stuff, so pretty disgusting by itself. But maybe there's something I missed...

While I'm disappointed Andrew Yang only got 1% from the Iowa Caucus, I still do believe him to be the best candidate that most blue voters are still sleeping on.

Toomey is beloved by the Koch brothers, and has no business being able to compete in a state like PA. He should have been one of the most vulnerable Republicans, yet he survives time and time again. It's infuriating. The Kochs have helped him, so they're a big part of it, but Bloomberg? How dare he! Katie McGinty was basically just a less famous version of Hillary, why the fuck would he choose that Koch supported piece of shit in a state that could easily, easily vote blue? It ended up being a difference of less than a 100k votes, if Bloomberg had stayed the fuck out of it PA could have gone blue for the Senate.

It's as if someone heeded my wishes of a Klobuchar surge, but decided to get only halfway there, and twist it in the worst imaginable way.

I expected the Buttigieg jump in the polls to be short-lived, similar to the one of Harris after the first debate. And Klobuchar was constantly rising in the last months, if she continues gaining momentum she can stay for the distance.

And Bernie is now the clear frontrunner. Biden really dropped like a rock and Buttigieg is already dropping again after his burst.

My guess ist that after super Tuesday, we will have Bernie, Bloomberg, Klobuchar, Warren and possibly Buttigieg and Steyer still running, with everybody dropping out before or right after that day.

My "friends" don't even know who andrew yang is, then proceeds to say 1000 dollars for everyone is a bad idea.  It's amazing, because for each one that doesn't know, there's 1,000 more that don't know, and no one else has a real workable plan for automation.
