Forums - Politics Discussion - Official 2020 US Election: Democratic Party Discussion

Too many old people wanting to run their lives as if they are 25. there is a point in the life of a man when he needs to realise he is too close to the grave, so better spent the last days on this earth with the family and pets instead of working nonstop as if you would take anything you earned with you.

News here is that Bernie Sanders has had a heart attack!
Here's some fast facts for you and anyone else under this wrong impression:
  • Senator Bernie Sanders did not have a heart attack. He had a stent inserted after a blockage was found.

  • A stent is a wire metal mesh tube used to prop open an artery during angioplasty – a procedure where a cardiologist re-opens a blocked artery to restore blood flow to the heart.

  • Stents are common. Approximately 1 million Americans have a stent inserted each year.

  • Stent insertion is not a major surgery. About 75% of stents are inserted through the wrist as of 2019.

  • Bernie will likely be back on the campaign trail within a week.

  • Bernie got as far as he did this year with a heart blockage, and he's been all over the place. Imagine him without that blockage.
  • The average age a person gets their first stent is 59, Bernie made it two decades past the average without needing one.

Thank you for this post. On another note tho, I honestly feel like he's been doing too much, like campaigning practically everyday and doing 3-4 events per day. I've been worrying for a while now.

No kidding! I could never do as much as Bernie has been doing these past few weeks. I've just never been that fit and full of energy that I could keep going for that long. And I'm not overweight or anything, just not super fit, but I am 29, and I've never been at a place where I could keep Bernie's schedule. Dude is a machine. I was a little worried from the perspective of him basically doing what few of any age could, but I was never worried from an age perspective, and I still am not. The guy is proof that age shouldn't be a consideration in a candidate, only health. Bill Clinton had quadruple bypass surgery at 59, and surgery for a collapsed lung a year later, and he's healthier than Trump, who is the same age. This little stent means nothing for Bernie.

Hope Bernie is ok, we need him :(

While he's my distant third choice after Tulsi and Yang he's still my one preferences with by far the best chance to take the nomination

"We hold these truths to be self-evident - all men and women created by the, go-you know.. you know the thing!" - Joe Biden

Here's wishing Bernie a speedy recovery!

What I've been hearing, fortunately, is that he's expected to be back on the campaign trail within days and will still be at the next Democratic debate, so that sounds promising.

Progressives polling well in Arizona.

Interesting how the polls do not support the conventional wisdom that Democrats will not nominate a progressive candidate.

Are these national or Dems polls.  On a national level, I would still believe there is a lot of push back against a progressive candidate like Warren and Bernie but who knows, American voted for a Black man as president for 2 terms so maybe its time for the Progressives to make a move into the White House.

Change Research is a fairly sketchy online-only pollster, though.

Not to mention it doesn't make sense that Arizona would favor progressives more than California, as attested by multiple other recent polls and previous primaries.

Arizona as a whole definitely won't favor progressives more than California but it's possible that Arizona democrats do compared to California Democrats.
