The newest patent filed by the company in Japan is for a VR headset—and it seems to indicate a wireless VR headset, which, as any owner of PlayStation VR who has had to fumble with its endless wires during setup will attest to, the current PSVR model is categorically not.

The patent in question seems to be for a breakout box for a wireless headset that switches transmission frequencies to maintain a consistent and steady connection with the headset at all times (in this case, we are looking at switches between 5GHz and 60GHz, with 60GHz seemingly the primary band for connection, and 5GHz being used as a backup band)."

Like every other rumor , this news should be treat with a grain of salt.

But if this true i am glad. No more people fall from the cable or step on the cable. More freedom of movement and more immersive . The problem will be the extra cost and lag input , will it sacrifice the lag input? Another thing need to be considered such batteries , how long will it be?

Seems possible, and that would be a huge step forward for VR.

This is the thing that would get me to possibly buy their VR set. With PC gaming I'm only interested in games like Civilization and Cities: Skylines and the like. All of my other gaming is done on a Sony console as main and it's been so for quite a while now. So if I go VR it'll be with a PlayStation console. But not until they integrate VR with said console in the smoothest of ways. Any less than that and it's a faff I'm not willing to get into.

Twould' be a great addition to the new device.

By the way, I can't see the patents. Were they removed?

Personally I'm more interested in higher res/higher field of view than wireless for VR as the thin PSVR V2 cord never really gets in my way. So I hope eye-tracking and better screens are the priority for the gen2 headset and wireless will be implemented if it's cheap enough/doesn't hold back the other aspects due to bandwith/design limitations.

I rather have them get rid of the breakout box. That causes most of the set up / moving issues. Plus a battery is going to add weight and make the headset bigger. Just left me plug it into the front of the ps5 with a single cable, simple.

Yea, I can't see any reason to keep the breakout box around for PSVR gen2.

Wireless is good, but give me the best possible option on IQ.

That would be a generational jump for psvr. Hopefully lots of improvements including this.
