FFVII just before Yoshi also.

Nothing really we can say at this point, PS4 is done and Switch is a beast.

 Until March? Nothing.

There are around 25 3rd party releases in that time but none of them are big I think. Super Robot Taisen T is the biggest probably.

Will also probably be the biggest week to come in between now and Yoshi, as that week also releases a new Steins;Gate and Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet - but that's just 9 days before Yoshi.

On another note, is the Phoenix Wright Trilogy digital only or just doing very badly on COMG? It releases tomorrow after all...

Few weeks ago we also had some titles releasing that never showed up on COMG.

Love your graph and numbers but how can the PS4's baseline be higher this year than last year when it has sold 288k less units?

I'm trying to make sense of this as well. Last year Monster Hunter seemed to have a major effect on hardware for several weeks, so maybe that's where the 288k figure comes from? And then is the baseline determined from the past 52 weeks, so even though it's down 288k, it doesn't offset the rest of the year? Yeah, I'm at a bit of a loss. You can see from the first week in the chart that the PS4 was above the Switch. It just had a really good January.

Thanks. Indeed it seems odd the first time the numbers came up. Will double check it

If you calculate a baseline, then it must be higher for the first months coming from the holidays, because sales will drop a bit for some time more. So basically, it is too early to have a fixed baseline for the year. Last years baseline is based on the slow summer months, which are still in the future for this year.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

PS4 released a ton of games this week. And yet that hardware is just not moving. At least software sales are good for them. Then can still make good money, but as far as hardware goes PS4 is basically done in Japan. It's going to be hard to get hardware above current numbers on any given week.

Meanwhile Switch is selling great without even trying. Zelda is going strong, since it is above Splatoon 2 for another week. Mario Odyssey is off the charts again. Japanese want 2D Mario at this point instead of 3D Mario.

PS4 definitely isn't dead in Japan.  It's just overdue for a permanent price cut.  It's still selling for ~$270.  It really needs a cut to ¥22,999 (~$210.)

Didn't they last cut the price in Japan just half a year ago?

In any case, PS4 needs a pricecut, not just in Japan, but worldwide.

T ppro got a 50 cut to bring it in line with the rest of the world. It was effectively $450 before the cut. Sony going for profit egr

Another great week for Switch

Not sure when the last time they did a permanent cut, but since it still selling for the equivalent of $270, it's still too expensive at this point in time.  As sales during the holidays prove, there are still plenty of people out there who want a PS4, but can't afford $270 & $300.

I do agree it needs to be WW.  Though, I think Japan probably needs it the most.  PS4 was only down 4% on a weekly average in the US in Jan.  Not bad for a system that is going on 5 1/2 years old and still being sold for $299.  When they do cut, I think it needs to be at least down to ~$210 in Japan and ~$250 in other parts of the world.
