Yikes at the drop for both Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is FFXV all over again, its gonna take a while to cross a million and not without some deep discounts.

Resident Evil might not even cross 500K.

PS4 drop was awful and this the second of its two biggest games of the year.

What is the first?

The Switch rises for apparently no reason and the PS4 sliding back toward sub 20k weeks.

YTD (LYTD)

Switch     471,078 (322,805) + 45.9%
PS4          230,204 (437,430) - 47.4%

 Pokemon Bundle got a restock.
Also the shiny Meltan event in Pokemon Go could also drive some sales

Impressive what a restock can do. Hopefully they will also make new joycons for the upcoming Pokemon game. I really liked the lets go colours

Pocky Lover Boy!

Pokémon really helped Switch this week, and Zelda is closing in on the 1.3m mark! And there's really nothing crazy about Kingdom Heart's drop. JRPGs are very front-loaded and >80% drops are pretty much standard.

Yes. The Switch is doing PSP numbers right now. And everything else is way below it.

In 2005/06 the DS was selling half a million a month, and that was outside holidays. We have come a long way and now most of these gamers have adopted mobile, which in my opinion isn't real gaming. This happened back in the late PS2 days as well, because the users were engaging with DVD video through the PS2, aand that was shrinking the market for VideoGames in Japan. But Nintendo was able to re-energize the market with the DS

Nintendo has to keep growing, and just do a lot better in the future. I don't believe Sony has the goods to revive the market anymore. I'm not expecting anything from them anymore in terms of Japan. Just look at how KH3 and RE2Remake are doing, they're topping the charts but their sales are embarassing.

It is amazing that third-party companies can not read the market. The Switch is selling well without them, imagine what it would be like if Nintendo had support like a PSP? Or even Psvita? Just look at the trajectory. Nintendo never, I say NEVER lost in their handheld division. Nintendo crushes all competition, in portable scene. The console is part portable, how would a resounding failure like was the WiiU or Gamecube if it also part of the area of greater success of nintendo? How can a console unifying two-console libraries fail if one of these libraries has never been lost in any generation of video game history?

Yes, for a long time I wondered too. And after talking with a lot of people about this, I cam to one conclusion: Third parties do not want to compete directly with Nintendo games. Most of these third parties want to make crap, and sell it. That would never fly on a Nintendo console.

And even the good developers that have a lot of quality, their sales would still suffer a little bit from being compared with Nintendo games.

It's unfortunate, but I don't think that's gonna change. It would need some heavy money-hatting from Nintendo, and money-hatting never works because the party in question would just go to another console manufacturer and have them make another offer. And then it would end up like a ping pong, and everybody would lose. So, I've come to accept that third parties will only support Nintendo consoles minimally, or almost minimally.

Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2017 (Dec 04 - Dec 10)

01./00. [PS4] Yakuza: Kiwami 2 # (Sega) {2017.12.07} (¥7.590) - 131.931 / NEW
02./00. [PS4] Earth Defense Force 5 (D3Publisher) {2017.12.07} (¥7.800) - 111.075 / NEW
03./01. [3DS] Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon (Pokemon Co.) {2017.11.17} (¥4.980) - 106.094 / 1.050.168 (-1%)
04./03. [NSW] Super Mario Odyssey # (Nintendo) {2017.10.27} (¥5.980) - 95.816 / 949.470 (+56%)
05./04. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 50.594 / 1.460.370 (+40%)
06./07. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 33.315 / 894.553 (+42%)
07./00. [PS4] Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters # (Bandai Namco Games) {2017.12.07} (¥7.600) - 21.971 / NEW
08./02. [NSW] Xenoblade Chronicles 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.12.01} (¥7.980) - 19.678 / 117.409 (-80%)

I don't get the criticism on Kingdom Hearts 3 second week drop. Were people saying the same when every other RPG that drops 80% w/w, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which was released during the holiday season)?

It's because the were people who for a while were saying how KH would give the PS4 a significant boost in competing in Japan while with the likes of Xenoblade nothing of the sort was said so KH coming out and not even denting the NS' position before dropping 80% is being picked up on as a result.

Xenoblade 2? Are you serious? XC is a super niche series until XC2, while Kingdom Heart is a very well known franchise and the mainline game always sell big. KH3 is a system seller, yet it did nothing to help ps4 and drop just like nothing. Comparing a KH mainline game to a XC game is very very laughable logic

In  handheld scene Nintendo aways sell third parties games, Tetris (only published by Nintendo), Professor Layton, Sonic Games,  Monster Hunter, Yokai Watch , Mario & Sonic Games, Dragon Quest and go on. It`s not true. They are losing loots of money. It's not rational, it's just a bad business decision.

Good point. But the Switch is not a regular Nintendo handheld.

I've explained this a thousand times, but the Switch is not currently classified as a handheld. It is a home console, that you can take on the go. This is clear as day. It isn't a handheld that you can connect to the TV. Console costs $300, games cost $60, and it was marketed at young adults(instead of children).

Nintendo doesn't have the spot for handheld this gen covered, because the Switch isn't a handheld. Third parties know this, and so does Nintendo. Even so, it is very successful, and it's been that way for almost two years. It's high time for third parties to take notice. But, like I said, they don't want to compete with Nintendo directly in the Home Console space(which the Switch is primarily part of at the moment).

NES, SNES e Wii sells a tons of third parties titles too.
