Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii/DS each had ten 10-million-plus sellers. Switch has five and it's not even 2 years old

Will it pass them and make to 11 or more?

Yes 129 94.16%

No 8 5.84%

Total:137

I seriously can't believe people are legitimately naming Metroid Prime 4 and Fire Emblem as possible 10 million sellers.

Yeah I checked the numbers after I posted and they were selling quite a bit less than I expected. I still think Three Houses will become the bestselling one in the series, but 10M+ is nigh impossible considering the bestselling one sits at 2M. 3-5M should be possible, though

I have the same hope for Three Houses. 3 million or more would be a great accomplishment; 5 million would be amazing, though I'd be very surprised if it does that well.

I'd say it will be more difficult at this point not to reach or pass those 10 10M sellers

2 are already well on their way (SMP and Splatoon 2), with NSMBUD potentially also breaking that number if it sells steadily over time.

2 Games coming out this year which should do it without much fuss (Pokemon and Animal Crossing), with Fire Emblem possibly also passing that number over time if it's very well recieved.

Next, among third party games, Minecraft should be able to reach that if it continues selling steadily, same could potentially go for Stardew Valley, Rocket League and some other Indies which always seem to be on top of the monthly download lists.

Finally, there's the question if free-to-start games like Fortnite count. If they do, then Fortnite and possibly Paladins could do it, too

Fortnite has already passed 10m download on Switch in November, so if it counts, it's a plus one to the 10m sellers list

Zanark best Inazuma Eleven pg

Nah, free top play doesn't count as downloading something for free is not a '"sale".

That's a given. Surprised that the Wii didn't have more tbh.

10 is nothing to sniff at.

The PS2 only had 3.

Given the titles that we know of so far, I'd say it's almost certain. The 5 that are already there, plus Splatoon 2 makes 6. If Let's Go can do it then a mainline Pokemon is definitely getting 10 million and we could get 2 new gens, or a gen 4 remake, so potentially 3 more there. Animal Crossing will almost certainly make it eventually. All that would already put us at 10. Super Mario Party is massively outperforming recent titles, and is already halfway there after just a few months, it has a great chance. Given how early they came, new 3D Mario and 3D Zelda titles are likely to come at some point, using Odyssey's and BotW's assets, like SMG2 did with SMG and LoZMM did with LoZOoT. Considering both are likely headed to 15 million, their sequels using their assets will likely at least make 10. I don't think we're getting another Mario Kart, but MK9 would definitely make it if it's on Switch. I have a feeling that Mario Maker, whether an enhanced port or Mario Maker 2, would make it to 10 million on Switch, it deserved so much better and had so much potential and was definitely held back by Wii U. People say NSMBUD could make it, and I suppose it could trickle its way to 10 million, but I sense a 2D Mario reboot coming that will definitely make it. A 2D Zelda (as in over the top like Link Between World style) would stand at least some chance of reaching 10 million, though no guarantee as no such game has gotten close to that yet. Luigi's Mansion seems to be on the rise, so there's a small chance there too, though not as much. And then of course there's things we haven't even imagined yet that Nintendo is hiding from us. All in all I could see 15 different 10 million sellers happening, maybe even 20.

SW sales for Nintendo is pretty top heavy though. The Wii had similar attach ratio to PS2, but the PS2 sales were spread out. The PS2 and DS sold similar HW and the PS2 almost doubled the SW, but again it was 10 to 3.

But either way that was a console from a long time ago. 360 also had ten 10 million sellers I believe if not more. As I already expect the Switch to outsell the 360, I think 10 should be easy. Hence why I think the Wii having definitely sold more than the 360 should have had more.

Even the PS4 doesn't get to that height yet. It got 7 10M+ games, but 3 are are about to cross that mark, too (Spiderman, as well as last year's CoD and Fifa). From those 10, 3 are CoD and 3 are Fifa, and both weren't as huge in the days of PS2 and Wii (CoD peaked late in Wii's life, when the console already went strongly downwards saleswise).

Really, during those days, reaching 1-2M was already a big hit, and not a huge disappointment like some publishers say (like the ludicrous expectations of them about Dead Space 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider for instance)
