Thought this deserved its own thread because of how ridiculous it is. So apparently a 4A Games developer has chosen to respond to the whole Epic Games store controversy surrounding Metro Exodus in saying that he thinks if players do boycott then definitely the next game will not be on PC.

This is by far one of the dumbest dev responses I think i've ever seen, what even is the logic here. It's like saying "How DARE you choose to vote with your wallet over our shitty decision" and then attempting to blackmail all PC players with "well if you don't just deal with it and buy it we won't put the next one on PC so take that", not to even mention that would affect them significantly more than it would ever affect PC players since it means they are losing a lot more profit so... congratulations I guess? 

Keep in mind this is just the thoughts of one developer and isn't a unified statement by all of them or anything, but it doesn't make it any less dumb of a thing to say.

Wow... it's like driving a tank truck into a burning house. 

I think its more based on economics. If Metro Exodus sells poorly on the PC then he believes that it would mean Metro 4 (or whatever) is then less likely to have a PC version. The lost profit arguement you use only works if the game actually turns a profit on the platform. If a potential boycott causes a loss then that's what they have to go off.

Honestly, I really don't get the fuss about Metro not being on Steam. Epic will be creamed if they didn't invest in their store when they're up against a competitor as dominant as Steam. Microsoft did the same in the early days of the 360 to try to syphon off some of the PlayStation base.

Now I really don't have to think about buying this game.

That's a logical statement. But Deep Silver wouldn't be in this mess, if they would keep the game on Steam and release it also on Epic store with the price cut which they've actually already done so. No one would've got offended with the exception of the usual suspects. 

If anything this kind of statement will probably just make people want to boycott the game even more.

One of the things people on any business should learn is not to bluff their customers like that. People can do anything if told they don't have the balls to do so...

PC fans are thieves anyway. Frankly even if they stick to the consoles they will still pirate it the way they did to Breath of the Wild and countless other games they had no business having.

While economically I can see what you are saying, it would be them willingly ignoring the context of why people are boycotting in the first place though and acting like it's the consumers doing it for no reason or that the games don't sell on PC or something, not in response to decisions they made. Especially when prior Metro games have both sold significantly well on PC already, according to SteamSpy both Metro 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux sold between 2-5 million each, I don't know if that includes the original versions in that number either. 

So in this case it's basically more like blackmail, or at least sounds like it. "Don't like it? well you better still buy it or else we won't even put them on PC anymore".
