Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation Was The Top Selling Home Console In The World For The 8th Year In A Row!

Amazing Sony, IMO Nintendo really dropped the ball first 1/2 of 2018 or it might have gone different! I especially commend Sony on delivering a gaming first device instead of trying to continue on the set top box route like MS.
Re: PS5 domination, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. The chances of another PS3-like failure are low, but new hardware gens always represent big opportunity and big risk.

Europe and the rest of the world are becoming more and more of a strength for Sony- as the PS4 is now no. 2 all time for home consoles in both of those territories - only trailing behind the PS2.

Thank you for the graphic guys. I'm not surprised.

They had the real strong trifecta of Mario Party, Pokemon & Smash Bros in Oct, Nov, Dec. I'm curious how things would have looked if they spread them throughout the year.

Super Mario Party-April, takes Labo's release date

Smash Bros-September, releases alongside the Switch Online service.

Pokemon-remains a November title.

I think Q1/Q2 would have certainly been stronger but would a weaker holiday cancelled that out or would we see a snowball affect where these games created stronger momentum going into the holidays?

$249 price drop might be happening soon to help boost sales. Could see a big surge- especially in Europe and the rest of the world. Maybe a Days Gone slim bundle post release (if it reviews well).

Maybe even more likely if it doesn't by chance review well. If a $249 DG bundle ended up the same price as the stock hardware only SKU, it should help move hardware regardless, and DG would see the benefits, much like some of the other SIE first party title bundles, even though they may have reviewed better.

Is it already known how strong PS4 sales were in America in January? Was there in the country also the limited edition Kingdom Hearts 3 console available?
