Which would you prefer if pushed.

HDR. 21 60.00%

Ray tracing. 7 20.00%

Neither/other in comments. 7 20.00%

Total:35

I bought a Sony 4K for the HDR primary and the 4K secondary. if my previous TV had HDR, I would not have bought the new one.

Does anyone like MMDs? (MikuMikuDance) Let's chat.

The effect on colours is pretty cool but I recommend playing through Alpheniem on God of a war or night race tracks on GT sport to see how  it can work on luminosty and textures. What's your favourite, Btw?

I don't have many HDR games right now. Spider-man looked very good. Ni-no kuni 2 just looks jaw-dropping in HDR. Various VR games look good, although I can't tell if that is the HDR or the VR.

Haven't played a PS4 game since then though. I'm all in on KH3 so I didn't want to be playing anything when it came out.

I am tempted to get a cheap version of uncharted 4 simply to re-play it with HDR on.  I remember being blown away by the colors at (I think E3?) but never saw it in person.

If UchartedLL is any any reference UC4 may not be the bestimplementationof HDR. It does make it more colourful and fleshes out some detail but It's not worth a replay for it. GoW or Horizon is the mind blowing stuff, mostly games released in 2017 onwards.

Everything in the above reply is my opinion, from my own perspective and not representative of reality outside of my own head!

Oh, on consoles HDR is restricted to 4K, had a 1440p HDR monitor and could not use it unless I chose to use a 4K signal. It was never native 4K, guessing it was downscaled.

It's not restricted to 4k. I've booted up loads of games in performance mode as well as 1080p from the menu on the pro. Also, OQ PS4's have HDR which is much less impressive but still closer to HDR 10 than 8bit. I'm not sure what you're problem would have been there but I have used three different cables now, a 15 euro one, the pro standard one and a 80 euro cable and while the 15 euro one is largely the same as the 80 euro one, the Pro standard cable (hdmi 2.0) is pretty shit, you can see the HDR but there is a massive loss in quality. Also, might have been your monitor, no? Most have a setting to allow enhanced colour that is not turned on by default, perhaps you didn't turn out HDR.

Just Xbox then, haven't tried on PS4. It's fact that HDR only works with 4K on the X unfortunately. I cannot have it on my native 1440p, have to choose 2160p.

the HDR in red dead redemption 2 is absolute trash. hopefully this fake HDR trend ends this generation. also to anyone angered by this statement, there is actual proof.

HDR os the most overhype shit on gaming, its 3D ir ver but way worse

I'm one of those who has to see the difference side by side to notice the difference and since I only have one 4K HDR tv I dont know ;P
I only have a regular PS4 but I do have an Xbox One X so do you have any recommendations on a game that would be a good game to see the greatness of HDR?

One friend of mine is hyping it... another friend of mine says it's just this generations MMX processor hehe.. who do I even trust!

Odyssey looks nice with HDR, it really is a game changing feature. Ones who play it down clearly haven't used it.

I can’t speak for gaming, but for movies HDR is more important than 4K (4K being totally unimportant on my main TV at my normal viewing distance, since no one will know if they are watching a 1080p feed or a 4K feed (heck I think hardly anyone would see the difference between 720p and 4K). Its 65” at roughly 3 m for reference).

HDR makes a huge difference. This week Mount Panorma is one of the weekly sport races on GT Sport, at night time setting. On my 1080p tv you get blinded every time the car in front kicks up a cloud of dust and it's hard to make out the numbers on the distance markers. In HDR you can perfectly see through the fog due to the expanded contrast range and the numbers on distance markers are always clearly visible. Besides that, it looks amazing at night while without HDR it looks fake like any other game trying to simulate night time.

The benefits are less obvious during day time settings, unless you enjoy looking at the sky. Going in and out of tunnels is a lot less disorienting with HDR. It's a shame RDR2 didn't have HDR, it would have done wonders for the dynamic weather system and night would actually look like night.

God of war looks really nice as well in HDR and expanded color, really nice reds in the lava stages. It makes a huge difference in SotC remake as well. Some screenshots I took are completely ruined by the SDR conversion, can't even see what I was taking a picture of. Spiderman same thing, crawling through the dark vents on my old Plasma, can hardly see where I'm going, keep turning in circles. No problem with HDR.
