Was not PS4 doing way more than that those weeks last year??

week 49 2017: 85k; week 49 2018: 74k

week 50 2017: 63K; week 50 2018: 81K

week 51 2017:70K; week 50 2018: 75K

week 1 2018: 91K; week 1 2019: 117K

That's what i'm saying... This year's week is way better compared to the pace last year. Maybe is because the deal is better like you said, but the 3 weeks before the pace was similar.

Sony tends to get bigger bumps following the actual Christmas holiday as people who received money buy a PS4, that in conjunction with the PS4 2 game deal it caused it to be elevated compared to prior weeks with the same bundle deal.

Yeah, but that happened the same a year ago as always, and PS4 did not sell more than 100k, that was my point. It's already discussed it could a bunch of factors, but still, i found it surprising.

Switch is just dominating that Software chart! And Smash is about to dethrone Splatoon!!!!
SMP is almost 1mil retail as well!!!

Found it surprising as well, I think it bodes well for the PS4 once it gets its price cut.  Hopefully they don't announce it too late for it to matter.  I believe they will cut the price once the discless Xbox one is released if I were a betting man.

As a side note, I feel that, if you're a Japanese developer you can't be too happy with overall hardware sales in Japan...5.99M units sold is still the 3rd worse in the past 17 years (from posted data on Resetera, its probably longer) and I don't believe that the Switch will offset declines in from the PS4/3DS/Vita etc in 2019.  Mobile is an actual crutch for the industry.

I said i expect PS4 price cut this year all over the world too in other threads, 200$ for the base PS4. It'll do wonders. It needs to happen, especially  in Japan.

And yes, this topic i already discussed too. I think the industry and Nintendo among them, has accepted the fact that they're going to sell less, but with a more loyal base that will spend way more, thank to more expensive hardware and software and online paid services. That's why i think Nintendo is going to dithc the Home Console/Handheld combo for this Hybrid concept. Just one console, selling less units than the combo before, but with higher profits. That's why i expect Switch not receiving price cuts until much later in its lifetime, probably not earlier than PS5/next XB launch at least.

If Switch baseline is selling 16-17M next year at 300$, selling 3'5-4M in Japan, i think Nintendo is going to be satisfied. Because the difference in coming years is not going to be hardware, is going to be software and services.

Wonder if this is the last time PS4 will manage 100k+. Switch keeps doing great as expected

Ps4 surprise of the week hitting 117k. Only 6th time it beat 100k and also outsold xbox LTD in one week. Highest ever weeks sales outside a major game launch or ps4 launch. Here's to it hitting 8m and 9m in 2019 which almost all of you doubted.

9 mil in 2019 is impossible for PS4 man. The switch will hit it though so take solace in that

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

I thought (I have to find my post from early 2013) that the PS4 would be down 20% from PS3 levels (10.5 to ~8) looks like ill be wrong on that.  Happy because after the PS4's first year in Japan, things did look bleak.

Why not? It needs to sell 1,381,566 in 2019.

It did 1.7-1.8 million in 2016, 2017 & 2018.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

PS4 sales in Japan, are like PS3's. Like a turtle, slow and boring but steady and consistent, and at the end of the day it will surpass 10M in Japan. I expect selling more than PS3 too, not by much though.
