My new years resolution....

Play more games -
Buy less games

I got my PS4 this year, and beside God Of War, WipEout and Spider-man, I couldn't resist all PSN sales so I spend a lot of money in it. And also a lot on Switch games.

Not as much as the years before. Game Pass definitely helps keeping the costs down.

Roughly 130 Xbox One games (I'd say 3€ on average), so ~390€
Most expensive game I bought was Forza Horizon 3 for 15€
Xbox One X 300€
Logitech Driving Force 139€
7 months Game Pass ~4€
12 months XBL Gold 28€
12 months EA Access 7€
couple of 360 games ~10€
Overall ~878€

I'd estimate somewhere in the $700-$800 range. I paid $240 for a PVM which was my big purchase, and then about $500 in a variety of games, both modern and retro.

Six weeks in 2019 and I already spent ~ €300 on games. If this trend holds, it will be an expensive year. ;)

PC share is currently at a record high so far (over 70%), but that can change over the year with nice deals for console exclusives.

Time flies, we are already in the second third of 2019!

In the first third I spent almost €600 / over $650 on games.

The biggest part of it (64%) is PC games again (including a lot of PC-VR games).

The Switch share has grown a lot from 8% to 22%... together with 3DS the Nintendo share exceeds 25% of total spending. A nice Amazon deal (5 retail Switch games for 100 €; I chose Diablo 3, Xenoblade 2, Captain Toad, Lego City Undercover and Pokémon: Let's Go) and my nearing vacation were the main reason for that.

Spending on PS4 games is taking a back seat for now, since I want to finish a lot of great PS4 titles first, which I bought in 2018 and 2017.

Spending on Xbox games will probably stay almost zero until Anaconda arrives. That said, I played a lot of Xbox games for almost nothing this year thanks to three months GamePass for €3 and two months of XBL Gold for €2.

I spent nothing on 2018, only 119 euros!
(Sonic Mania Plus, Splatoon 2, Dark Souls, LA Noire, Thumper)

So far in 2019 I am at 140 euros, should reach my 200eur norm.
(Fire Emblem Warriors, Civilization VI, Yoshi's Crafted World, Starlink, Project Highrise, Flat Heroes, The Next Penelope)

I have been so busy, I have spent $0 so far on gaming in 2019. Mostly been playing old games too.

The choice between Traveling, Socializing, Movies, Shows, Studying, and Video Games is too hard!

Well, one year later a lot of your choices are (temporarily) gone:

No more traveling, socializing, movie theatres or broadway / vegas shows (although you probably meant tv shows)...so no excuses anymore

My first third of this year has been unusually inexpensive:

And that trend will probably going on until November, since I'm clearing a lot of my backlog until the new consoles arrive. Also lots and lots of free games from Epic & Co. and great Humble Monthly games.

I probably won't buy any new games for the current gen this year... the 2020 console hits will probably look a lot better (and load much faster) on PS5 + XSX.

Thanks to GamePass Ultimate I still have a lot of new stuff to play (I played the hell out of Ori 2). The only full priced game so far this year has been the awesome Half-Life: Alyx.

It is very true, I have been working from home since February and I declared to myself that March was a gaming month. And game I did. I bought Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV and Nioh 2 for PS4, and completed my first run-through of each. ($120) In April I started some Apex Legends. ($0)

On PC I completed another game each of Crusader Kings 2, Civ 3, and Darkest Hour. While also playing through Divinity Original Sin 2. ($0 this year)

So yeah 7 games with quite thorough play. Cutting commutes/gym and stress from at work can do wonders for gaming time.
