Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Gears of War: Judgement is a piece of under rated GOLD!

Its a good game but the other games are great games. My biggest complaint about the game is the lack of story. Sure the slight tweaks of improvement are there its just the other games had more soul, more plot to drive you into the next section. This game got repetitive really fast. I felt like I just didn't care for the main characters in this one. Its still a solid game just not in the same pedigree as the trilogy or 4.

The game is certainlty lacking compared to more ambitious AAA games, but at its core its doing what I like by being a more pick up and play experience. That was also one of my favorite aspects of RE5, it was a game you could jump in without being hit with story scenes you cant skip. But RE5 was a game you can grind in, this game is more about getting a three star rank in each section.

Its more about the pacing for me. My favorite parts of numbered Gears is not the walking and talking, which is very popular in modern games.

People hated Judgment because of multiplayer, not because of campaign.

And for a Gears of War game it was indeed a horrible piece of shit. Blindfire reticle, no DBNO, no perfect active reload damage, no stopping power for guns, KotH mode changed to a 3-hill Domination bullshit, asymmetrical maps and only 4 of them and so on. Even things like vertical movement felt out of place in a game like Gears of War and made the game look like a bad joke. It was like any other fast paced 1st person shooter. They even killed gnasher duels with that overpowered melee. No need to master the hipfire, just hit B to stun enemy and deal massive damage, then shoot with a blindfire reticule WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?! Then they took back centre-screen aiming too instead bullets coming from the tip of your gun like it was in Gears 2-3.

But I thought campaign had a good gameplay. Iirc most of the gameplay changes were only for multiplayer and stuff like DBNO were still in the campaign. It was just that the story was non-existent and Baird just wasn't good enough for a main character. I remember it being fun to play though.

Then there was Overrun, a masterpiece of a multiplayer mode. It only had 4 maps but I'd say Overrun alone was worth the 60€ I paid for Judgment. Played the shit out of this mode and I so much hope they'll bring it back for Gears 5. It would bring in more casual players too.

I've been playing alot of Gears of War 4 multiplayer lately, mostly my favorite mode King of the Hill. I'd say it's overall the best Gears of War game by a big margin, actually. You might want to check out the campaign. It has that dark and gritty feel of original Gears but with with more exciting and better pacing of action.

Im no judge of MP, never got that into it. Gears 3 is the 360 game most people still play online so I will take your word for it. The Overrun mode is actually pretty fun, I llayed a lot of that as well.

I like Barid and the story was okay as a side thing. The only weak link in the characters was the girl, I cant even recall her name. Anywho, I dont think the story was bad per se, its how it was told thatvwas underwhelming and the game feels on lower budget side with especially in cutscenes.

I just realized Gears has never had a large scale MP mode. Curious to see if they try new modes in Gears 5.

I got a X1X recently so Im going to replay Gears 4 again but in 60 fps this time. In my memory is wasnt great at pacing but I tend to appreciate these games more after a replay. I primarily played the co-op modes in MP and its great, more of the same just refined.

I love Gears, but Judgment is shit. As you said it's just battling waves after waves. Extremely boring.

I think of it as a story driven horde mode! Even supports 4 player co-op.

This is also a fun game to jump into a campaign randomly online. Because its a action focused game so you wont jump into long story scenes per se.

Maybe instead of this horde campaign, they should have made it a bunch of ~30 minute missions like Left 4 Dead games. That way they can push the focus of online 4 player co-op, score players based on kills and damage, and really push the team aspects.

Because the way its packed just make people conpare it directly with numbered Gears games and understadably so.

It's the only Gears game that I've skipped.

I've often though of it as the Shifty Eyed Chin-Wa, Stupid Fucking Mick, Greaseball Dago, or even Sand "n word" of the latter part of the 7th gen. I loved Bulletstorm, and based on that, I've always wanted to try it.

Had some fun times playing Overrun mode with my cousin, I'd say that mode specifically is underrated and about the only reason to give Judgment a second look. Overall though the game is pretty lackluster.

I wouldn't call it gold but I did enjoy Judgement quite a bit.

It may lack the epic setpieces of 1-3, but it's still got that brilliantly tight, gritty Gears combat, and the arcade-y star rating angle actually really appealed to me as it made me try harder for stuff like headshots or risk taking on the declassified challenges, it felt nicely old school to get a 3/3 rating at the end of a hard-fought mission.

It also might just be the best looking game on the 360, absolutely mind-blowingly pretty for a game running on 2005 hardware. Lighting, textures, and effects are top notch, and the addition of AA gives it better image quality than the already stunning Gears 3.

I'd give it an 8/10.

The single player was really good, but the MP was a big let down compared with Gears 3. What they should have done is the ODST route. Make the SP then bundle it with the Gears 3 MP disc with new maps / characters etc.

I honestly don't get all the hate for this one. Then I never gave a stuff about online multiplayer so if it sucks in that department I wouldn't know.

Just getting another 5-6 campaign hours of that delicious crunchy combat was enough for me. Very few other games make shooting baddies feel as satisfying as it does in Gears. I even liked the wave-based sections as it was essentially single player horde mode, and sign me the fuck up for that.
