Forums - Sony Discussion - Instead of the PS Classic Sony Should Have...

Just re=released the PS One. They should have just put this bad boy back into production with its optical disk and HDMI support. They could have preloaded the same 20 games but with the disc drive people could revisit any game they want and have access to. They are selling the PS Classic for $100 anyway. I seriously doubt a slightly modified PS One would be much more expensive to produce.

Or just buy one one ebay... -_-

A few things...

1. They would have likely stuck with emulation because that's cheaper. But if they simply used a better emulator or specs to brute force better performance, there would be less complaints.

2. Sony would have to produce new PS1 disks to profit from this route, also the console would be more expensive to put a CD reader in there. Instead the PS1 mini should have essentially been a PS TV. That way you could go into the PlayStation Store and buy many notable PS1 games, PSP, and even play Vita games. That would have been better than the paper weight they created.

3. They also could have just copied Nintendo. Use or create a better emulator, get more definitive titles, add ideally add more features. If the device simply worked like it should, there would be less complaints.

This. I still don't get why Sony chose to use a 3rd party emulator for their console when the PSP and Vita could both run it fine. It couldn't be that difficult to make a couple of Vita TVs and sell them as PS Classics.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

More like should have released PS1 game support on PSN for PS4.

This... so much.

The should have just made the PS4 play both the PS1 and PS2 games. We all know its possible.

One would think that by now sony knows what works for it and what doesn't.

Remakes and Re-releases make sadly more money.  I am honestly very dissapointed how they handled the PS2 games on PSN. Most were 15 Euro not exactly cheap but even then the experience was not always great. The original Jax and daxter had a 100% bug that did let the game crash after a certain quest.  Still waiting for ape escape 3 and those atlus games :(.

Sega has already released mini consoles like that where its preloaded with like 80 games and has a cartridge slot, so I'd be nice if Sony did the same.

However I mentioned in a previous post they shouldve just done a PS1 classic with no games installed. You turn it on and itll take you to a mini PS store where you can choose 20 out of 100 PS1 games to download. And once you select the games and download them that's it, cant change it. Cause I see the problem is just the selection, there's just way too many great PS1 games that a lot of us would have a much different selection.

But that doesn't apply. No one is going to say they won't buy the SoTC or R&C remakes because they can play the PS2 originals on their PS4. Those remakes are practically new games. The only way I see this affecting anything is with regards t remasters which are usually just uprezzed versions of  games.

If there is one thing MS is din rights its their approach to BC. I personally will not buy a game simply because its been uprezed (remastered) but I will buy a remake in a heartbeat. I bought R&C, SoTC and will be buying RE2 without a doubt. I have however not bought a single remaster ever. With exception to TLoU but that was because the first time I was playing it was on my PS4.

You clearly don't understand the point of this thread or the PS Classic.

Funny is that the PSOne itself reached 49 USD price point =p

Maybe Im speculating here, but Sony doesent own the most notable games on PS1 like Nintendo and Sega generally did. So that means they likely pay higher fees just to get content on their device. I cant help but think thats why the PS1 is missing notable content.

The PS1 reached $49 a long time ago and while those specs were still being produced.

However, Sony could create a device that plays PS1 games, has a disc drive, and even improves the visuals/performance of PS1 games just by relying on emulation. The PS1 mini disappointed people because it brings none of that to table in spite of relying on emulation and the games run worse.

The thing is Sony doesent want people using their old game discs. I think they rather sell games digitally. But even if PS Mini did that, its still a crappy emulator box that runs games worse.

Second, I think Sony would rather send people to the exisiting store versus make something for the PS1 mini. So if the PS1 mini had the guts of the PS TV, that would be perfect because it already has access to the PS Store and a huge selection of PS1 games. It also emulates PS1 just about perfectly.

Lastly, Sony wouldnt allow people to choose the exact games they want because the 1st party content is cheaper or free to give out. They probably make deals to get 3rd party content cheap because some of the PS Mini games seleceted are very odd. For example, Medal of Honor was a major PS1 release and also treated as their Goldeneye. But they went with a crap port of Rainbow 6 instead even though you can buy MoH in the PS Store. That was a financial decision it seems.

But, they are able to license them for download in the PlayStation Store?  Every choice they made with the PlayStation Classic screams "lazy" every bit as much as it does "cheap".
