NPD arent marketing anything for Nintendo.

Nintendo is just using NPD data, and clearly states so. Microsoft and Sony are free to do that as well.

Well, i read something along the lines "according to The NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. From its launch in March 2017 through November 2018, Nintendo Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units, outpacing U.S. sales of all other current-generation systems at the same point in their life cycles." So is NPD who's saying Switch outpaced every other gen console. I don't remember giving an special annoucement for that with PS4 or XBO, they only said these kind of things on the monthly NPD news.

So, i don't understand why now they say something like this mid month and why they're calling Switch "current generation system". And the fact that they know the period of sales are not the same for Switch against PS4/XBO is not cited, so when in 3 months PS4 is still ahead of Switch, there will be no annoucemnt of Switch falling behind again, but this PR will remain in the conciousness of the people so people will think Switch is always ahead. If Nintendo was saying this it would be perfectly normal because is its best interest, but NPD should serve as impartial information of gaming sales, not for half truth news that only benfits one side....

It's pretty straight forward. How you possibly think this is some sort of conspiracy, I dont know.

And where is the rest of the monthly NPD news then?, why only have Nintendo related news?

What? Nintendo isn't going to do the PR for Sony and Microsoft. This is how it always works: NPD gives the data to the companies early and lets them release a PR statement before the full public report is out. If Sony and Microsoft want to announce anything, they're free to do so. Otherwise, the public report is out this afternoon.

Ok then. I was saying that line from NPD specifically though, not all the news from Nintendo itself. But if you explain me is because that line from NPD will be today in the public report, then ok, my apologies.

But i still don't like that NPD talks about same gen systems, and that they only say Switch is ahead when it benefits Switch but they don't say the same when it falls behind again.

Lol conspiracy..... But again, like the last time i had any discussion here in this site. If you don't really want to comment in what i was actually saying, i won't say anything more. If every on of you, find correct that an impartial group about gaming consoles sales, gives half truth information like "best selling console of the current gen systems" without any kind of context (now context doesn't matter i guess), then i'm fine. I won't say anything else.

NPD DIDNT... They only provided the data, businesswire the website linked in the OP actually wrote the article

So..., what "according to NPD" means then?? The article says that "Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling video game system of this hardware generation" is according to NPD.

And the fact that says "has become" it means that when the last year NPD said the same, PS4 in the next months again became the fastest console of this "gen" so that's why Switch has become again this month. That's my point, that the same will probably happen in a few months. Is not the point about NPD to give the most precise info possible?

Well, NPD is a for-profit organization, and they get their revenue from the businesses who are subscribed to their reports. They're not going to loudly announce negative news about their own customers. I doubt that they'll announce it when Xbox One falls behind Xbox 360 next month either.

No, that likely is something that NPD wrote. They said something similar in the report for December 2017.

Yeah, that will explain what i'm saying. NPD usually is very impartial, so is not that i'm against them or anything similar, is just that i don't want them falling in PR bullshit too like other companies.

And, yes i'm saying all of this because NPD indeed said the same thing last year, and now we know what happened during 2018. So we'll hear again in December 2019 that  Switch "have become" the fastest selling console of the gen again then?

Well its facts. No harm done by telling the truth. Should Sony stop making PR for PS4 being the fastest selling console of all time when the PS2 will eventually surpass it?

Smash is on pace of what i was expecting 4M+ units sold in December, so i'm not surprised, good results.

But why NPD is doing this marketing piece for Nintendo?? Why they say fastest console of the gen only when it benefits Switch??, They know that in a few months it will be PS4 turn for its aligned holiday season and it will become fastest console of the "gen" again in USA. And why they're calling Switch a console of the same generation as PS4 and XBO though?, what was Wii U then???

Would it be more fair to wait until ps5 comes out and suggest that Switch has a 70 million to nothing advantage?

Oh geez, people. This is a PRESS RELEASE from Nintendo that was posted by Business Wire (a press release distributor) that contains information Nintendo requested from NPD for the press release.

Sony could have asked for the same info any month they wanted to.

So you both are going to tell me this news won't be told as ..."NPD says......." in every gaming site news then?. Is not just a Nintendo PR, is a NPD PR through a 3rd partner in businesswire. In fact, this very thread is called "NPD:.........."
