Forums - Gaming Discussion - Any games where you started playing without a lot of expectations but ended up becoming one of your favorites?

Or, it doesn´t necessarily have to be one of your favorites, but at least ended up turning into the kind of a great experience you weren´t expecting.

Persona 5

Katawa Shoujo. I didn't even think I could like a visual novel as much as I enjoyed this.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Demon's Souls. I saw a japanese trailer of it online and thought that it loooked kinda like Oblivion in terms of setting(medieval high fantasy rpg...) so I gave it a try because that sort of game was pretty rare. Well it turned out to be the starting point of my favorite game series, with Bloodborne being the pinnacle for me.

The Legend of Zelda OoT on N64
Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii
Xenoblade on Wii

Persona 5. Like I literally played for 2 hours when I got it and was like, "meh this game is wierd and hard to follow." Now this was at like 3 in the morning and I was already tired and could not focus, so 2 weeks later I tried it again from the beginning...and holy crap...

Needless to say I was hooked and it has easily become one of my top games this gen. If it comes to Switch, I will play it again. If not...I will still play it again! Also I will be getting 3 and 4 eventually because of it, as I am now a true Persona fan.

I didn't even want to play it, actually.

Same here, but it started appearing in PSN sales for 5 bucks, so I picked it up. The entire time I couldn't believe what they managed to squeeze out of the PS3, but later I played some other later year games of the PS3 and TLoU didn't seem so impressive anymore on replay.
