About gen 6, it is far away to i remember anything to coment right now.

But gen 7, this reveal trailer had nothing but the title sun and moon.

And the last game had been in November 2014 (oras), not 2015, so more than an entire year between the last game and the announcement of the next one.

Yeah but even if GTA V is still the biggest game of the last and current generation, since it's just a port, a special focus on E3 wouldn't make sense. Just like DB FighterZ was announced, it only last about 8 seconds even if it was one of the biggest games of the year.

Well perhaps Gen 6 is the best comparison. Was revealed on January 8, and they had a pokemon game come out in 2012. It showed starters, legendaries, and a release date if I remember correctly. It is best to hype up a new gen for as long as possible, so a may reveal isn't happening 

3DS Highlight - the last time we got a 3DS highlight was in the September Direct, so its been some time. Im not expecting much besides just a five minute rundown of some titles coming.

No one said special focus on E3, just announcement on E3, similar like Rocket League and Fortnite were also showed at E3.

  ME: YES, Fire Emblem is an excellent game to spotlight.

  ME: I think Switch is done with new IPs for the time being, the window for those is the launch. A new IP will come with new hardware. I'd put Animal Crossing here instead.

  ME: Why not Pokemon?

Headlines:

• Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - Rundown, gameplay, new characters, coming April 12th, part of a 3 game deal with Nintendo and Marvel, other 2 will be announced in the future
  ME: This game sort of reminds me of when people were clamouring on about getting the latest version of Madden on the system in that I couldn't give a shit.

• Yoshi's Crafted World - re-cap, amiibo support, New Styrofoam Yoshi amiibo, releases March 22nd.
  ME: This needs something in depth, the gameplay looks rather spectacularly fun. I think the best platform is one of those Treehouse things - But I think Nintendo of America should rethink their naming strategy: a treehouse is generally associated with children over here, and Reggie's last name "Fils Aime" translates to "son lover."

  ME: Of all the Wii games I ever played, my worst one is called "Puzzle Quest" - I can't help but to cringe up and vomit every time I see that name associated with a video game title.

  ME: Super Mario Bukkake Party 2 might draw more attention.

• New First-Party casual game - some form of quiz game from Nintendo Software Technology, using the Switch and Joy-Con in a unique way, releases April 26th
  ME: You said the C word, which is the WORST word in gaming according to magazines. You would invoke gaming Satan himself?

• Daemon X Machina - Final recap, new mode, details, etc. Releases May 10th
  ME: Agreed.

• Bandai Namco Fighting games - Tekken 7, Soul Calibur VI, and Jump Force coming to Nintendo Switch. Tekken 7 coming Spring, SC and Jump coming later in the year
  ME: I remember in 1995-2000 when these were still interesting.

• WarioWare: FreeStyle - New WarioWare game that uses the Joy-Con, pass one to a friend for two player games, coming this Spring
  ME: I wholeheartedly agree with a Warioware game, actually. But why stop with 2 players? Why not make it a full on party game and have up to 12 players (8 at least)?

• Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Nintendo Switch Online - The wait is over, SNES games coming to NSO subscribers this year, SNES styled Nintendo Switch controller in development too. NEW NES games also revealed for January - May

• SNK fighters - The latest KoF coming this Spring, Samurai Spirits arriving later

  ME: And then you crash and burned! Remember what I said about the Marvel something 3 game above?

• Indie showcase - Including Super Meat Boy Forever, Fantasy Strike, Mineko's Night Market, and Level Head
  ME: Speaking of Indie titles, they have Stardew Valley Multiplayer now! Well! See all you Indie fans (who didn't know that yet) in the New Year@!

I think these would be good announcements for the first half, with an April Direct before E3 covering Summer and Autumn games. It's too early to talk about Animal Crossing or Metroid I think, so they'll save details for those later.

ME: I forgot all about Metroid. While I really enjoy the first couple of games, I have found it incredibly difficult to enjoy any of the sequels - including the much loved Super Metroid. I still quite like going back to the original though, it's one of the few NES games that REALLY holds up well. Anyway, I would love for Nintendo to return to that original inspiration they had with Metroid, but you guys will get another FPS Metroid Prime game instead and I will more than likely post 30-40 times about how personally offended I am about the praise the game gets... Unless they completely revamp it, get rid of the FPS elements, make it more of a platformer title with lots of fast exploration as the original game had. Basically, the last thing I want to play right now is FPS version 2847.

Now, if I may inject some of what I'D like to see. I want to see a bigger deal made about the Final Fantasy titles for fans like me. This is LITERALLY like divorced parents getting back together, even though it happened when you were a teenager, and now you're a grown adult with family of your own. Now you don't need to go to separate houses for you and your children to play BOTH your parents (into giving the kids free money). The symbolic nature of this is tremendous (because, let's face it, the Final Fantasy franchise only exists nowadays to remind us about their older, far better games).

Nintendo has introduced at least One new Major IP each year since the launch of the Switch. 2017 had ARMS, this year had Nintendo Labo. Next year will have at least another I believe. Shinya Takahashi said that Nintendo has a variety of New IPs and ideas in development.
