Yeah. Their entire internet situation is kind of a joke. Possibly the most heavily censored in the world outside of North Korea's "intranet". The government surveillance of it's citizens is of off the charts crazy. Then there's the weird specific tidbits I hear about: Ghost stories and anything with ghosts in it is also heavily scrutinized, and often censored or even banned. And this is one I just found by accident from a BBC article: "The government is also re-cutting many classic Chinese TV series to remove any obvious cleavage." lol. There's worse places to live to be sure, but it's still not a place I'd even want to visit, much less live in.

Yeah, I feel the same, which is a shame since they are a culturally beautiful and rich country . But with this kind of thing happening, we end up being forced to move away from it.

I want to visit China. It's beautiful and tourists aren't punished as much

Me too. But I'm gay, so who know what might happen in such a close minded country. It's the same as Dubai. I have a cousin living there that would love me to pay a visit, but I obviously never will for similar reasons.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

They're run by the Chinese Communist Party, so yeah they're communist in name at least.

In name being the operative word

I think if you don't have public displays of affection you'd be fine. And Dubai is very different from the rest of UAE so I don't know. But if it's a principle thing, than I understand why you wouldn't wanna go there.

Yeah, it's a mix of principles and lack of freedom. Especially the latter. I'm very discrete and very rarely show affection in public, and not out of fear, I guess simply because that's the way I've been raised. But to think I'd have to constantly be aware of my surroundings would be a terrible thought. :c

Makes sense. But you have to do that anyways(I think). Like Japanese culture is completely different and you have to respectful to different cultures wherever you are.

That said, this is basically my life hahaha. Not because of lack of freedom or anything, I'm studying in Montreal. But maybe because I am just that way or maybe I'm conditioned that way because my city went to hell after 9/11(Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan if you're wondering) and I was only 4 at the time. So being aware of my surroundings is either my nature or engrained in me. Can't tell which though because nature and nurture are entangled pieces that work together.  That's why I'm more wary of americans than chinese because chinese drones never killed anybody in my province. Nor did the chinese government bring a war to my soil. We are basically the punching bags, even by our own miltaray. There have been books written about "The great game". That is, all these different governments mixed up in my province and afghanistan and how they are basically using it as a strategy for control. I don't like armies for that reason as well and don't have much respect for soldiers. I don't mean to be offensive, that's just how I view the world because that's how the world shaped me. Kinda getting off topic but needed to vent a little

This maybe off topic but ...

While US intervention is not ideal in dozens of cases, Pakistan is a straight up irredeemable state. Trump will right the past wrongs you see and grant you your wish by letting Pakistan fall into political disrepair just as you see from Saudi Arabia or other middle eastern nations considering that the US was the only one with adult supervision in that whole affair ...

Given that China and Pakistan borders between each other along with the fact the US is at the other side of the earth, it is China that should be feared since they have a cutthroat foreign policy going by their relations with Vietnam. Vietnam was once a potential geopolitical ally for China after the vietnamese civil war but that came to an abrupt end after Vietnam decided to side with the USSR instead and to this day China still threatens Vietnam with war, however this time their going to bar the vietnamese from access to the South China Seas so I'm willing to bet the vietnamese wish they could get military aid from the US ...

The fact that Pakistan is squandering it's only possible counterbalance against China, they are going to be shit out of luck if they face a chinese invasion on hand just like the vietnamese without an option for a deterrent but I guess siphoning cash out of America is more valuable to them than long-term stability and an alliance with a superpower ...

sounds about right for a socialist/communist country

Socialism/Communism/Authoritarianism are a plague on humanity. Authoritarianism is never going away but I do hope the other two disappear from the face of the earth at some point.
