Forums - Sony Discussion - psmini, one of the biggest fails of the year

psmini is on the market, and its sales seems to be so bad. Its official price was 99€, and in Europe it is now at 59€. We must remember Europe is the best sony market in the entire world. So it is probably the worst electronic product of this 2018.

sony must think about this. It is not just about copying the other companies, you need to do it right.

They tried to take advantage of Nintendo's success with as little effort as possible, Sony really should be ashamed of themselves. Good to see that consumers didn't fall for it

I honestly still kinda want one. The collector in me wants yet another box sitting by my TV

The psone games have not aged well, the games of nes and snes have a nostalgic aura. Psmini is not a good emulator, nes and snes mini is a good emulator and brings the feel of the classic 8 and 16 bit era. Finally, the arcade games that reflect on the NES and SNES games have a nostalgia factor that much of the Psone library does not share.

I wonder if the modding and homebrewing community is going to be able to fix this.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Hah. It's a PEGI 18 device? Wonder what pixelated violence has the classification board in a tizzy.

Probably among them with Labo and some other obscure release we don't even care.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Maybe not Labo in general, but certainly the Robot kit for Labo. I'm certain the PS mini will have sold through a far greater percentage of its initial shipment than the robot kit did.

i don’t think you can blame the poor aging of ps1 titles on the failure of the psmini. it’s pretty clear that those who wanted a psmini were not impressed with the game selection, and that sony didn’t try very hard to make sure the game selection was optimal. the result really is on sony who thought the mini could sell itself and the game selection didn’t matter too much.

Sure, lets just ignore the fact that there are a ton of better games they could have chosen to give us.  I am sure that had nothing to do with it.
