Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rise of third party exclusives on Switch

The Switch has enjoyed solid third party support thus far, but one thing that seems to be growing this year and into next year is third party exclusive titles. The console's unique, mobile hardware and lower development costs make it very attractive for developers of smaller or mid-sized titles, particularly if they want to make it exclusive. Games such as Octopath Traveler, Ninjala, Daemon X Machina, Gal Metal, Ninja Box, Fit Boxing, SMT V, Town, and Yokai Watch 4 are becoming more and more common on the system.

This is a good sign IMO. While ports and multiplatform titles are great, I think exclusives help give a console a unique identity, they are a big deciding factor in which system you should buy for your gaming needs. Switch lends itself well to exclusives since the detachable Joy-Con combined with its portability, led itself well to experiences no other console, let alone mobile device can do nearly as well. I think you should expect some more third party exclusives in 2019.

Yeah, out of what you listed only two of them has released so far and one of them don't look good according to the reviews ...

What we're about to see in 2019 and 2020 are the results of what 3rd parties have been cooking since mid 2017 to early 2018 once they realized the Switch was going to be a huge success after taking the 'wait and see' approach after the Wii U debacle.

With franchises like Yokai Watch and SMT staying exclusive to Nintendo as added support that was born from Nintendo's portable devices, it certainly looks like it's going to have a DS like juggernaut of a library with great games exclusive to it.

I hope switch can reach 3DS levels.
Theres gotta be like 100+ rpgs atleast on that little device.

Switch has alot of catching up to reach that level still.

Exclusives are bad and you should feel bad.

Dont forget Bayonetta 3, also with point that Switch is only Nintendo platform going forward Nintendo will found much more 3rd party exclusives,
same like more 3rd party itself will do more exclusives for Switch.

It perhaps isn't, but it will get there eventually. The Switch going to get a lot more Japanese support moving forward, picking up the middle level studios that previously only made games for the Playstation platform. With this, I can see it getting a massive rpg selection at the end of its lifecycle.

Exclusives are life, they bring life and make things meaningful. They are the constant and the good.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Except when they're on platforms I don't use. When someone paid to have them not be available on other platforms.
