Forums - Movies & TV - I'm more excited for Godzilla King of Monsters than Avengers End Game

Well, considering that they are replacing Adam Warlock with Bland Larson, I'd definitely say that I am more hyped for Godzilla. It's also nice that we'll see much more of Godzilla in this one. 10 mins in the first one, when it was over 2 hrs long, was bullshit.

Well to be fair godzilla been done before but this new one looks good so will watch

Trailers. The trailer for Independence Day was fantastic.....I had hope for Godzilla 2014. It thought it was barely OK. Barely. I thought Kong: Skull Island was garbage, and it was also a precursor to this movie. Definitely looking forward to End Game more. To each their own though. I hope it's good.

I liked Godzilla 2014. I think you are wanting more of a deeper story here which is not really the point of a Godzilla movie.

Not that I'd complain about having more monster screen time, but https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/godzilla-joins-jaws-alien-and-the-blob-in-the-shy-86214024547.html

It really isn't against the norm. Happens in many monster movies as they build up the backstory, etc. Especially true in now as they need to reduce risk / cost in FX. Same reason first Transformers movie had relatively low screen time for actual transformers. However, in the end, it was a good Godzilla movie IMO.

Did you see Hideaki Anno's Shin Godzilla?

You weren't speaking to me but I did watch Shin Godzilla. Gosh it was amazing. I've seen it around 3 times now and it never gets old. It's the perfect mix of human struggle and hubris against something bigger than themselves and amazing epic action.

Ontopic: I agree with you OP (it also helps I'm not a Marvel guy, lol). I watched Godzilla 2014 and while it wasn't as good as Shin Godzilla, some of the action as well as the dramatic moments with Bryan Cranston really worked for me. I think it just needed better dialogues for the humans (aside from Bryan Cranston) since the monster clashes were brutal.

King Kong: Skull Island on the other hand is the complete opposite for me. I loved the human stuff and most of the characters had cool dialogues, charisma and some were even memorable BUT the monster clashes were definitely not as good as Godzilla 2014. They were probably a bit gimped since all of the big popular monsters are going to appear in this upcoming movie and the sequels but still, they left a lot to be desired.

Hopefully this new movie can have both things. Excellent, memorable human characters with charisma + epic monster clashes. That'd be the best.

Me too. Godzilla is classic, and the last Avengers film was a total disappointment for me.

Judging films or getting hyped for them based on trailers isn't something you should be doing, otherwise people would have been super hyped for Suicide Squad (I guess they were given day 1 sales) but you should base your cinema visits on more than what a PR company cuts together from what they deem to be the most action packed scenes of a movie... or in the case of some films... shots which were not in the film at all (thinking the scene at the end of Rogue one with the tie fighter in front of the main character on the satellite dish, wasn't in the movie at all.)

Sometimes trailers just ruin a movie imo or ruin it because your expectations are going to be wrong going in the door, or they just straight up spoil plot to get tickets sold, this is a 3rd act reveal btw in the film https://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/how-to-train-your-dragon-2-trailer-is-released-92930.html

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

But, that's not how Godzilla movies work. The first one was more like that, but when it was his time to shine, they still focused on him. Godzilla '14 commited the sin of cockteasing fights 3 times, just to cut from the action as it began, to focus on the humans. Once would have been fine. The other times we should have seen more of the battle, even if it was only for 1-2 mins. It wouldn't have felt like you were cheated.

G-money will always be my homie.
