Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Super Smash Bros Ultimate: UK-Fastest selling Switch Game (Best Selling SSB Game FW)

I expected 4M worldwide sold first week (since launch until first sunday) and around 8'5M worldwide at the end of the year so this seems to be on track. Smash is not that popular in Europe as in North America and Japan, but I expect huge sales in USA. For the first week, something like 2'0M US, 700k Europe, 900 JP and around 400k (maybe a little less) in the rest of the world.

Probably will be the biggest launch for an exclusive game ever, but I think Smash will be a lot more frontloaded than Mario, Mario Kart and Pokemon games, so, people expecting 20M sales are going to be disappointed, in my opinion it will be closer to 15M. But who cares, a mega impressive result for the franchise and Nintendo.

If Pokemon Lets Go sold 3m in 3 days, Smash will probably do around 5m in same time period, and around 10m seemes like a lock at end of December. With digital sales game probably is around 150k+ in UK alone, so that would mean closer to 1m in hole Europe, Japan is locked it will sell more than 1m (possible even closer to 1.5m than to 1m), and US probably around 2.5-3m, and few hundred thousand in rest of world.

Smash Bros is game that will be selling hole Switch life span, you will have new Pokemon game, new Mario and Zelda game, maybe even new Mario Kart game, but you will not have new Smash Bros game on Switch. So 15m+ Is a lock, 20m is very possible if game do more than 10m in first month.

Pokemon sold 3M in the same period and i guess it was something like this 1'1M in USA, 800k in EU, 700k JP and 400k rest of the world. Smash is supposed to be close to 2X in USA, but i don't expect that ratio in Europe at all. It will be close to Pokemon Let's Go because i'm pretty sure that in mainland Europe Smash is not as popular and Pokemon Let's Go should probably still be ahead.

But yeah, what you said is perfectly possible, what i said is what I expected from Smash before any news, so i'm not saying this is what happened, i was just explaining my numbers. Its perfectly fine after this news to expect better numbers too.

And the last point, Smash games never had the same legs as other Nintendo games like Mario or Mario Kart, so no, I still don't expect that to change. Brawl sold like 12M i think..., so well, 15-16M for Ultimate is what I expect, it's a huge growth still.

Na I think 8m by the end of the year. That's still very good though.

Talking about Europe, Smash Bros sold more than Pokemon in UK, talking about Japan, Smash Bros will sell much better than Pokemon in any case (1-1.5m), also Smash will easily sell more than 2m in US, most likely 2.5-3m.

I mean we will know most likely in few days, Nintendo will probably release PR announcement like they did for Pokemon sales.

To be fair previous Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart games also didnt had so strong sales like they having Switch currently, and whats more important those games were not bundled, Smash Bros will be same just with difference that it will be longer legs because we will not have other Smash game on Switch. How much Brawl sold is irelevent, Zelda BotW alredy become best selling 3D Zelda, and Odyssey will also be best selling Mario 3D Game, Smash Bros Ultimate almost certain will be best selling Smash Bros game in less than hole year (just in less in one month it will be at around 10m), also this Smash game that buy far had biggest hype.

Most likely it will be at around 5m sold just in first 3 days on market, so 10m shipped at end of month seems like safe bet.

UK market is never a good representation of the rest of Europe, so don't bet on UK = EU. And.... why are you expecting Ultimate selling almost twice than Brawl did in Japan ??(it did around 800k). Smash Bros has always been popular in Japan, since day one. They're not more hyped than they were 10 years ago.... I expect something flat or barely better, even reaching 1M, but 1'5M is too much.

Zelda became the best selling Zelda game because it was the best and most hyped Zelda since Ocarina of Time in a more popular console, in a time period where every big and successful AAA game sells more than 20 or even 10 years ago (Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, .... are good examples).

Ultimate will be treated like Brawl was...,maximum profit by Nintendo by not bundling the game excessively.

Edit: Were you talking about those US sales in first week??....lol..., no way, don't be crazy. Remember first week = 3 days.

UK is not good a representation for Nintendo in sense that its not strong Europe market like it is for MS or Sony, but actually point that Smash Ultimate had best launch for any Smash Bros game (including Wii and 3DS ones that had much higher install base in that time, sold around 62% better than Brawl on Wii) is very encouraging for rest of Europe. I said Smash will sell around 1-1.5m in Japan  based on informations we having, Switch Smash Bros bundles, preorders, interest, hype...and yes, this Smash is more hyped than previous ones in Japan also.

Offcourse thats one of reasons, but on other hand its obvious that big/great  games have great legs on Switch, we saw same thing with all biggest Switch games, Zelda, MK8D, Splatoon2, Odyssey, even games like Mario Party and Kirby seems that has very good sales, same will be with this Smash game.

No, it will be treated like MK8D, Zelda and Odyssey, just with even longer legs because we want have new Smash game on Switch. Smash Ultimate will be in any case one of must have games for any new Switch owner similar like MK8D, Zelda and Odyssey are currently.

Yeah, dont forget, Pokemon sold 3m in first 3 days, and Smash Bros has much higher hype than Pokemon Lets Go had in any case, so Smash Bros will probably done more than 5m.
