With all the bullshit censorship Sony has undergone, it's almost a certainty that Catherine: Full Body will be censored as well on the CensorStation 4, and so where does that leave Persona 6 for the CensorStation 5? Will Atlus concede its only major Sony exclusive to Nintendo if and when it happens?

Honestly, a part of me hopes it does happen. Sony needs to learn a lesson in humility. If it takes losing a major exclusive franchise of theirs to learn that they have a lot more to lose by trying to appease non-gamers with their puritanical bullshit, then so be it, and it'll be to Nintendo, no way will it go to MS.

Please enlighten me, what exactly needs to be censored from P5 to make P6 leave a Sony device?

What exactly might be censored in Catherine?

I hope Yoko Taro never works on Sony's future consoles. Fuck this company and its puritan standards.

I can believe I'm really actually planning on ditching any future Sony consoles.

Then don't buy anymore Sony products.

Just waiting for this shit to blow up and then you can count on it that I'll be skipping PS5.

1) JRPGs have been successful and relevant on Nintendo dating back to the NES. Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, the Chrono series, Kingdom Hearts, just about every major JRPG franchise in the book has a history with being on Nintendo systems. 1-3 year old ports of 3rd party games that have already been out on PS4 during that time isn't exactly the most ideal comparison.

Nobody's arguing that they weren't including me and popular JRPG franchises like those already succeeded on Nintendo platforms but it's the much smaller JRPG titles that struggle on Nintendo platforms like the stuff you'd see from Tecmo Koei, Bandai Namco, NIS and the others. Even discounting ports that were over a year old and including near simultaneous releases, the PS4 still wrecks the Switch for many smaller Japanese games like Nights of the Azure 2, Attack on Titan 2, Atelier, Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle, Ys VIII, Shining Resonance Refrain, God Wars, SNK Heroines, Labyrinth of Refrain, Warriors Orochi 4 and Valkyria Chronicles 4. Even with a mainstream franchise like Dragon Ball, it wasn't even close in those cases when PS4 destroyed the Switch counterparts in games like Xenoverse 2 and FighterZ ...

There were only 3 instances where I think the Switch performed closely or came out on top and they were Sonic, Megaman, and My Hero One's Justice so disregarding over 1 year old ports, PS4 still decimates the Switch and when the Tales of Vesperia remaster comes around PS4 will still likely dominate as well ...

2) Didn't seem to stop other M rated games like Doom, or Wolfenstein, or Skyrim from making it on the Switch, and from what I recall, Bethesda was pretty pleased with the performances of those games. It sure as hell didn't stop Bayonetta from virtually becoming an unofficial Nintendo franchise despite its much, over the top, M rated nature. Bayonetta as a character is at the point where she's pretty much blurring the lines between 1st and 3rd party character. That was a combination of Platinum's development and Nintendo's publishing and marketing that established that franchise as a valuable one for Nintendo. Bayonetta 3 is one of the more highly anticipated Switch games alongside some of Nintendo's own 1st party offerings. So, if Atlus and Nintendo really wanted to, they could make the same happen for Catherine and Persona.

How do you suppose M rated action games like those can be translated to an M rated puzzle game like Catherine ?

Nintendo has had past bouts of M rated games before like Golden Eye and Perfect Dark so it's not like their breaking precedent with Bayonetta or anything. Even the Wii managed to get a franchise like No More Heroes ...

Catherine is absolutely not comparable to those games in any case. It has a both unique demographics and mechanics that would mostly be found on the games mainly seen on PS ...

3) Monster Hunter fans didn't seem to have a problem in the long run with Monster Hunter World moving to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. And Capcom certainly isn't complaining at all with their choice of platforms for their 1st 10 million seller. As long as the game looks amazing and it has what they expect and are hoping for from the next mainline entry, fans will learn to move past it.

Furthermore, there was a 8 year gap between Persona 4 and Persona 5. Even if the wait for Persona 6 were 2 years shorter, that would put it at a 2022 release date. The PS4 will be mostly  obsolete by that point and the fans will have moved on and expecting Persona 6 to launch on a newer, more relevant system, which at that point, for a game like Persona, will be the PS5 and the Switch (or Switch 2, though I highly doubt Nintendo will give the Switch a shorter life span than the 3DS.)
The PS5 will likely be the #1 selling system (if Sony doesn't royally fuck up their reveal and launch like they did with the PS3 and Microsoft did with the Xbox One), but it still won't have an install base yet to match the Switch, which should still be selling respectfully well at a much cheaper price point with an install base that's also closer to 100m.

The circumstances are very different regarding the transition of Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter World has been in development since what ? Ever since the release of Monster Hunter 4 ? What's more is that MHW released on a platform that outsold the platform the franchise previously appeared on almost a year ago which was just before the release of the game itself ? It's premature on your part to talk about Persona 6 when Atlus has yet to finish a big project they're undergoing which is SMT V and it probably won't see release until at least 2020 ... (a 2022 release for a new entry in Persona would be highly optimistic given the fact that P5 itself took over 5 years to develop after the release of Catherine)

If you somehow think that P6's release cycle will be entirely favourable to Nintendo while PS4 will stop being a viable target despite the fact that it features stronger hardware than the potential target of the Switch along with a brand that has the strongest post generational numbers then it strikes me as nothing more than your wishful thinking. P4 released well after 18 months of the launch of the PS3 all the while they were still targeting "obsolete" PS2 hardware so to speak in your comparison to the time frame you've measured against the PS4 ...

If anything, Atlus has shown that they don't care about developing for leading edge platforms since they didn't even bother to release P4 on it's target successor which was the PS3 but that didn't stop the game from being a success. Heck, It wouldn't even be a surprise that PS4 was the initial target for P6 given the fact that Atlus has started to lag with technology since last generation. There's no valid technical reason for Atlus to exclude the PS4 and being inclusive about the Switch if you want to play the game of userbase so badly ...

Welp, bad news, everyone: it looks like Catherine: Full Body will, in fact, be censored like many (though not all) of us feared it would.

"I will report this here for everyone.

There are no mysterious lights in Catherine: Full Body. (We went as far as we could go without the light shining.) To everyone worried about that, we love you. (We received about 10 more of the same question.)"

Friendly reminder that the Nekopara devs also said it had no white lights, yet it got censored in other ways, so this is almost a direct confirmation that they're going to censor it. Otherwise, they would've outright said it won't be censored instead of trying to skirt around the issue by saying the lights won't be tampered with.

There goes Persona as a Sony exclusive franchise. Seriously, Atlus/Sega won't put up with Sony's bullshit censorship policy, it's definitely leaving Sony at least as an exclusive, if not outright deferred to another platform holder (hello, Nintendo).

What is there in this game that merits censorship? Can anyone enlight me?

Can you report some instances in the persona series that might be subject to censorship?

I really can't think of a single one to be honest.

Also another thing, why should gamers even care given their political demographics ? Console manufacturers straight up already don't accept games rated as adult only ...

Looks to be a bit overblown in this situation though i do not encourage any kind of censorship but that link you gave is too vague to be called factual/prove on censorship and even when it is factual it does not look like it can effect the game by much.

And it looked liked the developers are saying that they are wary of censorship while developing the game but not that the game gets censored by Sony after development.

Not sure why you think that to be bad news. The only thing Catherine might have been censored for was with light beams during the more risque cutscenes. Light beams are the Japanese equivalent of the black boxes that are used on American cable TV to obscure nudity. Since there won't be any of that it sounds like the devs were able to skirt the line as far as they have always been able to go without any censorship by Sony's new crap.

The only way to be able to see if it's clearly censored or not due to external factors is if we compare it to a reference version and that would be the PS3/X360 version so when the game launches it'll be fun to make a comparison ...

True.
