Forums - Sony Discussion - PUBG launching on PS4 on December 7th

It’s a Rise of the Tomb Raider thing..It’ll be interesting to see how PUBG will sell on PS4 considering the recent landscape of the BR genre. I have no interest since I’m kinda over BR (though I’ve only played Fornite) and I already got another game waiting in the wings on December 7.

Eh I don’t think so. PUBG was in game preview for like 9 months on Xbone, PS4 doesn’t even have a game preview program. Tomb Raider was just a deal for money.

Its still going to sell very well. Like Xbone, PS4 players love shooters. It sold millions on Xbone, will sell millions on PS4.

But does it have battle royale ?

Not interested. COD BO4 and fortnite are more than enough for me.

Nah. It was definitely a 1 year timed exclusivity deal.

There was and is a bunch of early access and in-development games on PS4:
7 Days To Die
Ark: Survival Evolved
Atom Universe
Darkest Dungeon
DayZ
Don’t Starve
Fortnite
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game
H1Z1: Battle Royale
Paragon
Realm Royale
Subnautica
The Tomorrow Children
Warface
Etc.

I honestly don't think the game will be able to deal too much damage Fortnite and Blackout on PS4, but does that really matter anymore?

PUBG is already one of the best selling games of all time (over 50 million copies sold). Even a but more on PS4 would just be icing on the cake.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Or it could be a 3 month exclusive once it left the early access program.

When I say PS4 has no early access, I’m talking an actual program for early access games. There isn’t one and hasn’t been one. Heck a lot of the games you listed were glorified betas or weren’t even listed as early access. Like Fortnite and Ark. It’s nothing like the dedicated early access programs and guidelines Steam/XBL offer.

It doesn’t really matter anyway. It’s coming, it will be interesting to see it’s sales. Wonder if it gets a physical release like it did on Xbone, even if it’s just a code.

whats the point anymore to be honest, they took 6 months too long

Bold: I doubt that. A bunch of early access titles have been released on PS4. No reason PUBG couldn't have.

Bloomberg: "The creator of the hit video game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is in talks with Microsoft Corp. about extending their agreement to publish the game exclusively on Xbox, according to people familiar with the matter.
South Korea’s Bluehole Inc. has agreed to produce the game for Microsoft first by the end of the year and is likely to give the company a longer period as the solo console."

When the deal was struck it made sense. The Fortnite fad didn't take off until early 2018, so no one cared about that game last year. Now with Blackout out, PubG is going to have a hard time competing.

Hmm, pie.

When you capture lightning in a bottle, you either go multi-platform as soon as you can or become a first party studio. Even if fortnite wasn't there, someone else would've filled the void with so many enormous studios dedicated to making shooters. PUBG was never a game that needed much talent to replicate, especially that it has neither mascots nor a single-player campaign that tells a unique story to differentiate it from the copycats.
