Forums - Sales Discussion - DQ11 hits 4m Shipped + Digital

https://www.famitsu.com/news/201811/07167158.html

Over 4m now shipped + digital. About 3.4m were ps4 + 3ds in Japan so 600k shipped and sold in the west for the ps4 + steam. Not bad as its not out that long. And without the switch version. I'm guessing it will do 6m+ in the end including the switch release. What's the record for the series?

You're counting only 200k for Digital in Japan ? Didn't the PS4 version have a high percentage of digital downloads there and wasn't there also a 3DS bundle with a digital version ?

Still I don't think 600k is good ENOUGH for SE, the development costs seem much higher for this entry than the previous ones, even if the Switch version managed to sell 1M in the west (which is difficult considering who knows when it's actually going to release) i think it'll be a while before we see DQXII in the west

I'll never understand why they didn't go with a simultaneous worldwide release.

It worked wonders for Monter Hunter World and Final Fantasy XV.

^ this.

Might as well do marketing right once, and have it be impactfull everywhere at the same time.
Instead of splitting things up and doing smaller pushes a few times apart.

Building hype, letting it die,... and haveing fans wait forever for a english release, while hype dies down, isnt optimal imo.

Like Im sure with a simultaneous release, there would be better overall sales,
and you could do a more effective push from marketing, resulting in even better sales.

Cool. Now give me DQXII.

Not only that, but releasing far too close to Spider Man...talk about a brilliant move.

Hmmmm thats not a good. And just so people know, its not 600k shipped for the west. You need to take into account that the number we know in Japan is sold-through(due to MC), so there is bound to have 50k to 100k in stores in Japan, not to mention that the digital sales we have are also estimates. Not only that, but Asia should have a percentage of that number for itself.I think a fair estimate should put it around 100k.

So in the west the shipment is actually sub 450k, maybe even sub 400k.Thats not good at all.But I mean, its Square fault for this, since they should have had the Switch version ready by now and the PS4 should have had a worldwide release. Not to mention the next to zero marketing push the game had in the west.Reminds me of people that were already saying that DQ comming back to PS was the best decision possible made by Square due to September NPD data.Thats what happens when you jump the gun and are too sure of something without more solid data.

Having said that, the game still sold really well, even if its thanks to Japan.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Waiting on Dragon Quest XI S on Switch, even with that it will be difficult to reach the 5.79 million sales of DQIX which was all from just DS.

One of the biggest problems of Dragon Quest's sales potential is the really bad localisation support for the series. It takes forever for the games to releases elsewhere if at all.

Also why not releasing the 3DS version in the west.

Yeah, that too.

A simultaneous worldwide release on as many platforms as possible.
