Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony ramping up censoring of Japanese games, now forcing all Japanese games to go through Western content inspections

And the thing is that these games were approved by the ESRB, CERO, and so forth. If Sony gets to dictate what can go on their platform because of their personal feelings, then what's the point of rating boards in the first place? You know, their function is to determine if a game's content can be legally shown or not.

This won’t end well. I can see Sony losing their support if this continues.

So, Sony is turning into what Nintendo used to be?
Is this the Matrix or something?

its simple - make an option to turn nudity on or off. thats all that needs to happen

The worst thing is, the games they've been censoring are already censored. For instance Senran Kagura games, they've been censored for years, nipples and crotches are covered by flashes of light, but that wasn't good enough for Sony, they additionally forced the removal of a mini-game that allows you to interact with the girls. Recently Sony forced this monstrosity of a censoring job to happen:

Switch version: https://www.flickr.com/photos/oneangrygamer/45497077362/in/dateposted-public/

PS4 version: https://www.flickr.com/photos/oneangrygamer/44821969904/in/dateposted-public/

The woman wasn't even nude, she was wearing a normal bathing suit that isn't even all that skimpy, and as you can see Sony forced ridiculously huge light beams to cover up the swimsuit.

what game is that from? ....

Asking for a friend.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Good on Sony. Don't need to see that stuff.

I can't speak for anywhere else but the ESRB has nothing to do with if a game's content can be legally shown.  It's an arbitrary, self-regulatory system, not a government system.

Regardless, the ESRB's function is to determine if the game's content is okay to be shown or not. In addition, what you said is only partially true. In Canada, the government enforces ESRB ratings in a handful of its provinces.

I said, "I can't speak for anywhere else."

When you said "anywhere else", I assumed you were referring to PEGI and CERO because you cited ESRB as an exception.

When has censorship ever been a good thing?
