Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2018 gamers have gone soft

I have an almost daily routine of going on Rocket League and trying to see how easy it is to mentally break team mates and the opposition. I used to take the game serious and had a rank of champion albeit playing by myself against random teams so that was a decent achievement. Now i just have a laugh and my rank is just below diamond so pretty average. But half of the reason it's so low is because I wind up my team mates to the point where they have a mental breakdown and self destruct, basically joining the opposition. Doesn't bother me I just laugh. Now the best part is it could be as simple as the opposition scores on him and i type what a save three times in the chat. Most of the time that alone is enough to trigger the implosion.

I've played about 8,000 matches on this game and in probably well over 1000 of them I've had the team or opponent have said "reported enjoy your ban" or "everybody report this guy" and so far I've not even had so much as a chat ban. Physonic either don't even check these reports or more likely they look at them and just laugh. Just another modern gamer getting triggered over nothing i bet you they say. I'm very creative with how i stir the pot and never cross the line with racism or death threats.

So imo the modern gamer has gone soft. No longer able to take a bit of banter. If they can't handle the heat either turn off the text chat feature or better yet don't play online. It's almost like some people want to be triggered. Now while i often wind up my team mates more often then not it's the opposition. And i file this under a very good tactic called mental warfare. The opposition usually take the bait and start playing emotionally rather then logically which usually leads to mistakes and me winning games I'd have probably lost. Maybe because I've been around since the good old days of early online console gaming i just have a thicker skin but today's gamer. Leaves a lot to be desired. If i had a penny for every time i was called toxic in the chat I'd be a millionaire. It's not toxic, it's banter and it's something the gamers of today are struggling to grasp.

I seen the picture below online recently and it made me think, Jesus these softies wouldn't have lasted a second in the chaotic war zone that was mw2 online on ps3 and 360. Those were the days! 1v1 me on rust you pleb!

Ah the good old days when you could call your teammate a bloody wanker if he died to much in stupid ways a.k.a. killing themselves. Despite what people think not everything has a double meaning. Sometimes when you call someone a bloody wanker you mean just that. Anyway I don't play online much except with a group of friends and we pretty much banter all the time. Kind a how we did during the couch co-op days. If I would pull the shit I did there online saving blue sells, stealing stars in Mario Party and rubbing it in ofcourse. I am pretty sure I will be kicked out pretty quickly in todays world.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Do you remember starting up a game on hard-core search and destroy on cod4 and half the time your team mate would pull out the rpg and blow up his entire team at the start.

Some people can take insults better than others. It's always been like that and it will always be like that.

Maybe you should reflect a bit on what you're doing. Like, if more than 1000 people reported you, you should maybe consider the possibility that you are to blame, and not the people reporting you. Sometimes banter can be toxic too, you know? You shouldn't want everybody to change just to fit what you want when you seem not to be willing to change even a tiny bit.

Sometimes these things that feel like banter to you are discouraging other "weaker" players. It's not very encouraging to keep playing when you're always bombarded with insults. And idk what advantages you get by saying those things, so maybe you should think about that too.

Well, not all nerds can take sports trashtalk and banter.

A cynical one would say this post is example #1 of what the OP was talking about lol. Not me though. I'm not a cynical one. I hate cynical people :p

So you're a dick to your own teammates, then call them soft when tons of them report you? Ok.

your lack of direct examples speak volumes. maybe you just have a hard time digesting the fact that people dont want to deal with people being dicks, being called out for any and every mistake, even just overly sarcastic snark remarks. a lot of people use video games to de-stress from situations like that. if you cant realize that, thenn maybe its you thats in the wrong environment

Sounds like you're just trying to justify the fact that your teammates don't like you.

Looks like you are the problem here, not everyone else.
