Forums - Gaming Discussion - OMG Streets of RAGE 4, guys!!! C'mon, why is no one talking about it????

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_bgPefCyfA

I looked back on the news and NOTHING was covering it here on VGC - are you KIDDING ME???? O_O This is HUGE! SOR has a lot (if rather small on a whole) of diehard fanatics such as myself.

I for one have been waiting over 20 freaking years for this sequel to one of my favourite games of all-time - Streets of Rage 2. Technically, SOR3 but SOR2 is MY favourite. The whole franchise is awesome, though.

Anyway, I just found out about this news on a Canadian channel The Electric Playground which is my go-to for Videogames EVERYTHING. No one beats Vic Lucas on gaming - NO ONE! He brought games to television when nobody else was even thinking about it, but anyway.....

STREETS OF RAGE 4. Yeah, this is like, seriously unreal to me. What has been? 24 years since the last game? I mean, SEGA, the fans have been craving SOR4 for what seems like an eternity and finally FINALLY we get part 4 and it actually looks awesome with the change of style. You can tell it's STILL classic Streets of Rage gameplay.

No one here seems to care? Really? Man, it blows my mind they're actually doing it. I mean, I cannot even describe just how blown up I am right now. This has so much potential to become my favourite game in the past decade or so. I mean, if it has four player online this could be the coolest thing in existence for beat em up fans such as myself.

Little needs to be said on how I feel like that 90's kid all over again.

Good news, i think, tho I havn't played the series. Here's a question: what makes SOR better than its peers, like Final Fight, Double Dragon, or TMNT arcade games?

"Why is no one talking about it????"

There was a thread about it at some point, when it was announced.
My impression from that trailer is still the same as it was then.... it looks lazy, not like a love project they poured their hearts and souls into.
I wont call it a quick cash grab, but it doesnt look as Id expect a new Streets of Rage to do.

Honestly??? My immediate answer would be the SOUNDTRACK. My god, please do yourself a favour and listen to the tracks Go Straight and Dreamer from SOR2. If ya like what ya hear then just check the entire soundtrack out because everything on it (first two games) is golden. Possibly my favourite soundtrack from that era of gaming BY FAR.

The gameplay, it's hard to describe, but it just feels better than any other beat em up I have ever played. It's unique to SOR. Well, again, I have to mention SOR2 as the gameplay in that one was a huge step up from the original game. And then the third game kinda was somewhere in between, got a little worse than SOR2 but still better than the original.

Overall, it's just that overall cool atmosphere that they nailed combining terrific dance music, awesome stages, cool characters and fun fighting mechanics.

I see where you're coming from. I sort of felt the same way after a moment's thought, kinda wishing it had a more detailed sprite look. Gameplay to me is the most important right now but yeah, the graphics to me are a mixed back. I like that it looks different enough and how clean and sharp it will look in HD, but the more I look at it the more I think it looks too plain and simple. Too much black edges too which I can do without. I'm not TOO picky about it right now but yeah, the overall look makes it look a bit TOO cartoony for a SOR game so yeah, understandable.

To me, it still looks good enough and I can let this visual style slide as long....and I repeat yet again...AS LONG as they bring Yuzo Koshiro back for the music. I swear to god this is a matter of me buying this or not as far as he is concerned. The music was like 50% to what made the games so enjoyable and cool. If he doesn't create the music in this game, I'm out - no thoughts about it.

It looks promising, I'm also excited.
SoR were among the very best 2D games ever.

Amen to that, my friend!

Back then I switched to Genesis from the NES (never owned a SNES.) Something about Sonic just sucked me in when I was at this older dude's house watching him play. But yeah, then I discovered Streets of Rage and I was SOLD!

I care. I just don't have high hopes for it.

Never played Streets pf rage until a mate stuck Mega drive classics into my ps4 in 2014, I didn't really see it standing up as well as some other NES and Megadrive era games. I have no hype for this but If the reviews are good I may jump on it.

Ok, sure, if you just played the original. But please tell me you've tried SOR2. They're like night and day in terms of gameplay. To me, SOR2 holds up so well even today. No doubt about it I come into it here and there at least once every couple months.

I had a Master System so I was already grabbed by Sonic, then my cousin got a Mega Drive and I went over to play it, and he was playing Streets of Rage... I was blown away. I was blown away again when he switched to Sonic 2 I couldn't even believe it haha, but it was SoR that showed me how good 16 bits could be.

If you ask my brother, that was never a gamer, he'll tell you his best memories were Sonic and SoR haha.

Your brother sounds to me like he kicks ass! That alone tells me the power of those games.

SOR2, for me, looked so good then that it looks even awesome today.

Oh right. Yeah, I only played the first one. Can't remember if it was on the Megadrive collection or X1.

DUDE....DUDE! Go right now and download the SOR2 emulator. I don't care how you do it, just play it lol. If you still think it's not that great, ok, but at least I'll know you gave THAT game a go. The first one is cool for what it was but SOR2 totally changed the game. It set the standard for beat em fighters. Many consider it the greatest beat em up ever made and for good reason.

I am buying it :)
