Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Online can improve

i would love for nintendo to adopt a sales like mentality of MS and Sony, with added discounts for online members, but i am not holding my breath.

i also havent played online yet, just been caught up with river city ransom and havent been elsewhere yet. would love to see snes games too!! namely TMNT 4 that would be so bad ass with 4 player coop beatem up online.

i never thought about trying voice chat, way too much overhead for something so simple that can be done in one place.

If you don't play games online...then yeah...you kinda don't need this service. It should go without saying.

Since I do play Smash online and have since Brawl, I need this service. The online games, deals, and cloud saves are just welcome additions to me.

I think the way they improve the service is since everyone likes voice chat...include system level voice chat for Nintendo games. Add different tiers of games. Anybody expecting SNES, N64 to be a part of a $20 are kind of insane. And improve their netcode. This is literally all that can be improved as far as an online service is concerned for the price.

Voice chat is a system level function that has no place in an online service. Experiencing lag in games is not solved by adding larer servers, it has to do with Nintendo's Netcode which isn't horrible, it just needs work. Every Nintendo game uses a dedicated server of some sort, implementing larger serves really won't fix disconnection issues or lag all that much. Messaging, again shouldn't be a part of an online service...this should be system level. The Wii U did all of these things without an online service being necessary. So some of the things we're asking for doesn't necessarily revolve around the online service and they shouldn't.

The deals...eh, yeah they suck so far. But Nintendo already gives you $3 for online purchases of $60 or more. $6 if you pre order their biggest games. And I think that's not bad. Adding any more discounts would be welcome but I highly doubt Nintendo would make this a part of the online deals. I don't think the service itself needs that much work compared to what the competition offers for 3X the price. They're close but there are few fatal flaws they're making to make it undesirable.

You still think the Switch will get friend messaging? You poor soul, guess at this point you'll still believe even after the next console is out. :L

More on topic, of course it can improve, but the question is will it. Nintendo had a lot of time to make the service good from the get go, yet they deliberately didn't, infact they even made it worse by cancelling SNES games. Needless to say I doubt it'll get much better.

Of course, it's confusing as to why Nintendo has made little progress when gearing up for launch. But I still think much of this stuff can be fleshed out in the future. And yes, you'll get your SNES games in the future too.

yeah, people say the voice chat app is terrible, but ask yourself this - have you actually tried it? because i have and honestly it isnt that bad.

This. The app was never the biggest problem here, and in fact it's possibly the aspect that the most unfairly hated because impressions from it for other games is that it works surprisingly fine. The app isn't bad in concept, we just want more versatility in how we use it. I think its just a case of it uses a phone therefore it sucks because phones are evil or some shit.

*logs into Switch app*

*Sees that the only supported game is still Splatoon 2*

Uh... What am I missing here?

Mario Kart 8 DX, ARMS, NES Online, and Mario Tennis Aces all support the app for voice chat. Splatoon 2 is the only game that has an extra service at the moment.

It's common with cloud services to offer a limited free tier to get people interested, and it is the least Nintendo should offer since they don't allow save backups. Start with a free cloud save feature open to everyone but limited to 1GB or even less. Need more? Pay up for an online account. Afterwards when your subscription expires, and your total saves are above the limit, you select which cloud saves you would like to keep.

The mobile app should also have option to make groups and send text chats. That would make it much easier to organise matches.

Easy as that

* Special Offers need to be more than Controllers and occasional discounts - According to Nintendo, Special Offers will consist of exclusive digital and physical rewards for subscribers that are either free, or available for purchase, like the NES Controllers. This is actually a big deal, as we now have a legit Club Nintendo successor that My Nintendo failed to be. That's why I don't just want classic controllers and lazy discounts, I want to see free games, digital items, physical toys, and other neat novelties on offer. This is actually the most exciting part of the service, and one that could push me to subscribe if they get some cool stuff.

* Some kind of text messaging system please - Seriously, it's 2018 and we don't have any legit SMS feature on the Switch? This doesn't have to be part of the subscription service, just some way to text message friends through the system and app.

Special offers already announced exclusive gear for Splatoon in October (scroll down past the controllers): https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/special-offers/

And I agree on the messaging system. I need to contact my friends, and I hate voice chat or even video or something like that. Text messaging is much better. And it shouldn't even be part of paid online, even the people not paying for online should be able to communicate.

"Nintendo Switch Online can improve" Understatement of the year. They could've least bothered with resurrecting Miiverse, now that people are paying...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

That's a little better. Wish I'd known! I'd love to have talked smack in MK8. I'm curious what's the difference between Splatoon and the other games, now. Game invites?
