I remember watching Korra. I saw the entire series from beginning to end. It was originally meant to last only one season, which is why season 1 felt rushed. But it was so popular and did so well that they decided to keep it going... And I'll just say that it shows in the first half of season 2.
Korra Season 2 pre-Beginnings was, in my view, the lowest point of the entire series. The incredible animation was its saving grace at the time because the writing, especially for the characters (Korra and Mako in particular) was just awful. I was almost ready to give up on the show at that point until the one hour special "Beginnings".
Korra Season 2 from Beginnings onward was some of the best programming I saw from the series since Book 3 of the original. I would put "Beginnings" up against "Siege of the North", "Secret of the Fire Nation", "Day of Black Sun", or any one hour special from the original and I think it was just as good, if not slightly better.

But yeah, I pretty much agree with you about Korra. It had its flaws and is not on the same level as the original, but it's still a damn good show overall.

It did look really nice now that you mention it, and I also remember it sounding awesome on my HT. I'll be honest, I don't really remember a lot of stuff from it aside from some key moments, but I'm guessing "Beginnings" is that one episode with the first avatar and stuff? Cause if so, that was definitely one of the highlights of the show for me.

*Korra spoilers* (I really hated when Korra broke the connection to previous avatars later on though).

It's one of the best shows I've ever seen and I hope to god the Netflix show will be good, although even if it's as good as the original in terms of plot, I feel like it could never be as visually engaging as the awesome animations.
Also, Toph was the best character of the show imo

That's the one! I can still remember the major events of that special in sequential order. It was incredible.

I guess I'll give my overall thoughts on the series.

The cartoon is the greatest cartoon I've ever seen. Even better than Batman: The Animated Series (Which was my favourite show until I saw Air Bender). Sad thing is, I never gave the show the chance until later on. I remember I was at an HMV and they made a "Book 1 Collector Edition". I remember I was looking at it but I was like "50 bucks?". The clerk that was on the floor was with me when I was looking at it, he paused and was like "It's worth it". I should have listened to him :(.

So while I was an app developer, my friend who I was working with, we were talking about it, since he watched it. So after I was let go, I was like "I'm gonna watch Air Bender and Young Justice". The first season was uneven, but holy hell the second and third season. I've never seen character development on that scale before. Not since Lost. As a testament to the show, even my dad was watching it with me. He also hates my nerd obsessions, so that's how good Air Bender was.

On to Korra. It was a good 12 episode mini series. The problem? It was a 58 episode order (vs 66 of Air bender) and had 12 episodes already used for first season/mini series. This left the show with uneven seasons. This severely hurt season 2. Season 3 though? It was every bit as good as Air Bender. Like, my jaw dropped, I was shocked with what they got away with and just how intense it was. Season 4, while I have yet to finish it (I think I'm 7 episodes in of the season), it didn't make me "want" to watch it. Though partially because I know the show will be over if I finish it. Though reading what happened in the last few episodes, I'll admit it does sound intense, but not quite as intense as season 3.

As far as this live action goes? Well, one thing the live action movie did well was demonstrate "bending". The live action movie more or less failed cause it was trying to condense 22 half hour episodes into a 1.5 hour movie (biggest reason). That approach was never going to work. Even a 12 episode retelling of the first season might be enough. Hopefully Michael and Bryan can remember what made Air Bender so great (I think they dropped the ball a bit with Korra).

Best Western animated series. The upcoming NF live action series can't top it, but it can't be worse than the movie either.

A lot of great characters but Sokka and Toph were my favorite heroes. Azula my favorite villain! So intimidating!

Love it so much.

Iroh was my personal favorite. But Toph is right up there with him, and Sokka was awesome too. The entire cast was great.
And Azula, as I grew up and got older, the more and more I started to like her as a character. She's definitely still as intimidating as ever, but now I actually feel sorry for her and feel she got the short end of the stick when it came to her family. Specifically in regards to her mother.

It's pretty good. I've watched it twice. Kinda weird ... I remember so much about it but I don't really ever think about it a lot.

I love it. Azula and Katara are my favorites, mainly Azula though. I hate Aang though. Don't really have a favorite season. I'm glad I caught this show when it was airing for the first time. Definitely played a role in my childhood.

I watched Korra and really liked it. Season 2 was trash but the other three were good. Korra needed more episodes each season. The 12 or 13 episodes wasn't doing it any favors. ATLA felt more fleshed out because they had so much time to flesh it out. Korra didn't have the chance really. I also think people are way too harsh on Korra. It had flaws but man people nitpicked the hell out this show. Some people were just plain sexist about it too. Just becuase Korra was a female some people claimed the show was highly feminist which I never got any vibes from. I guess people can't stand female main characters.

ATLA is definitely one of the best Western cartoons.
