Forums - Sales Discussion - Vgcharts should include/estimate digital sales

I believe Vgcharts should start estimating and including digital sales. Right now sales of recent games don't make any sense and neither they represent actual sold units. Just look at Uncharted 4, God of War, etc we got exact official numbers but on Vgcharts they are still off.

Its time Vgcharts started estimating digital sales.

Vgcharts estimate retail with good educated guess based on so many official charts we get apart from hard numbers. Same can be done with digital sales. Right now sales of games don't make any sense and in future digital is only going to become more common. I have stopped looking at Vgcharts because of this reason. Its time to estimate digital sales to get near to actual unit sold. Vgcharts was never about being 100% correct but right now its not even 50% correct.

As long as PS, Ninty and MS don't give that information I would say no. Besides if its a PS4/Xone game add a multiplier of 1.45 and you will get pretty close anyways. For Nintendo its probably about 20% and PC over 90%

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Nah, like I said VGC gets some retail data and they use that to base their estimates on. Charts are used as well, but charts alone give you absolutely nothing but the order things sold in. If you're basing the sales on charts alone you'd just be pulling figures out of your ass. Much better to have estimates within an acceptable margin of error for physical sales, than just to have purely made up completely inaccurate digital sales added on to them. Besides, aren't digital charts usually just top 10s or something? So even if you had sales figures for one of the games on the chart (to use as a relative base for the others) it would still be completely useless for any game not in the top 10 that week.

Ok get that retail data but start estimating digital sales along with it. Its not hard to add 30-40% of sales. It tend to be high first week and then gradually slow down. And then depend on if there is any discount online.

I want Vgcharts to add that multiplier on sales. For PS4 and Xbox games at least.

I think it's only Nintendo that wont release digital numbers over the long term, but it would be great to have those numbers as I'm sure it's a rapidly growing trend, but I doubt anyone could accurately estimates those numbers without something concrete

Oddly enough, digital sales should be the easies ones to know, they must be all registered in their respective servers, but because the companies won't release that info, we literally have no means to do estimates. Shame.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'd be awesome if we had the means to make reasonable estimates but... We don't.

The site will have to find a way eventually. Digital sales become more relevant and grow every day.

Sometime in the near future they will be so important that VGChartz can't afford to ignore them anymore.

You should read what Bristow said. Its not about the importance of digital sales.
