By "like FIFA" I mean that it feels completely soulless  and sterile, and factory-made.

Well the majority doesn't share that opinion, or atleast it isn't stopping them from buying the games.

We'll see about that. If they come out with a new NSMB (with the usual bland look, sound and story) and it does way worse than the previous ones, I'll be there to say "I told you so".

Then again, if they come out with a beautiful, creative and cool NSMB, and it still does worse. I'll concede.

We've already seen how Fifa and NSMB sell. Also NSMBUD (why are you talking about a new entry?) selling 10 million would technically be way worse than the first two games, but naturally it's silly to use those games as measures of success. Afterall I don't see you saying Mario Kart is sterile and souless. The better measure is if the game sells in line with the other top sellers on the same system as the series has always done. If NSMBUD doesn't do that, then we can start questioning if it's still a majorly liked series.

I base that on everything i have heard about the game since announced to this day.

I too consider it the best of the 3 NSMB games i played, but i have never seen being praised the same way MK8 was praised. Or Mario Maker. Even Mario 3D World seems to be remembered more fondly than NSMB U.

Not to mention that it was sold as a bundle for, roughly, 2x the time MK8 was bundled?

So yes, vocal minority forum goers. I'll definitely be sure to bump this thread after January hehe.

I don't know how you read a "yes" from what i wrote, but ok.  :D

This is one of those times i don't mind being proven wrong, although i really made no claim...

Yeah Mario Kart is not sterile and soulless becase they put effort into its visuals and therefore it looks good.

That you've heard anything at all means the answer can only be a yes, since it's the minority that audibly complains while the majority buys the game.

You said NSMBU wasn't a hot or treasured title, which is already wrong of course, but eh even more evidence never hurts.

Fatigue? It's been 6 years since the last NSMB game, so I don't see where you're getting that idea from.

And it's been 12 years since 2D Mario did anything remarkable in the way of presentation or new gameplay ideas. That's mainly what I refer to when I said fatigue.

Not sure that's the right word choice as fatigue is caused by doing too much, not by doing nothing (4-player was something cool imo). Regardless I see what you're saying but since it's been so long the NSMB concept will feel fresh, especially when NSMBUD is essentially a new game to most.

Jumping into conclusions.

Why is it wrong? Because of it's sales?
Mario Sunshine sold 6.3 Million and is regarded as the weakest Mario 3D game.

Ha, not even gonna try to explain how my conclusion isn't accurate.

Duh!
By some sure, but not everyone, though even if that were true it wouldn't change anything. You can still like a game even if it's not your favorite in the series. I'd give up fishing for excuses to try and explain away the cold hard numbers cause it's never gonna happen.

No, i'm not.

By some? Then you haven't paying attention. The game was never celebrated as a great Mario game. Not when it was released, not some years after or even today. It's not seen as a memorable game, period.
I'm not saying that people can't enjoy a non-favourite game in a given series. What i said is that, in this specific case, i have a hard time believing it will do MK8 Deluxe numbers when the game wasn't cherished the same way. And i don't necessarily see big sales being a decisive factor for that to happen.

You don't agree? Fine.
