Forums - Politics Discussion - An open letter to the black community of VGC

Wow, been years since I saw you make a thread like this, it's pretty good.

But, we need to talk about the real issue at hand here; Milka chocolates are disgusting.

So you were a racist before VGC but improving now?Good to know with age wisdom should come.

Love you, Rol. You're probably my favorite people on this site!

Yeah, I'm black. My wife is white. Throug different states of my life, my best friends have been black, white, Chinese, and Mexican. There are definitely black people as bad as you can imagine and some that are the best you could ever hope to meet. I don't really have a point. I just want to say that you're a cool guy.

People make the mistake of thinking criticizing culture is criticizing race. Races are largely the same, it's cultures that are different. Unfortunately those on the left sometimes fall in to the trap of not being able to differentiate between the value of cultures, because they see segments of racial groups that identify with those cultures instead. So you end up with people unable to speak out against certain religions, or segments of population (which may happen to be a smaller race homogeneous section of a population, but which isn't it's defining characteristic) because they identify doing so with speaking out against the race, rather than culture.

So don't be racist (duh). But also don't be someone that can't see the difference between criticizing culture and criticizing race. It's happening a lot nowadays.

Also when you mention this...

"I think fear of the unknown is the biggest driving force for racism. People get tremendously paranoid of bad things that could happen if those people settled nearby and eventually they begin to mistake their frightening fantasies for reality. "

I wonder if you might be confusing cultural concern/protectionism with racism. My friend who is Polish for example does not want the country to take in any refugees from the middle east. Not because he is racist, but because he wants Poland to maintain its national identity and because there is a legitimate concern for security. You might disagree, but that's not the same thing as being racist. Now sometimes those sentiments are coupled with actual racism for sure, but they're not a necessary feature.

Also a lot of people in this thread seem to be judging groups based on small sample sized personal anecdotes. Anecdotes of a few people really cant tell you anything about any single group of the 7 billion people living on this planet.

Huge number of polish people have in the past migrated to other countries like US and UK, not as refugees, but for the money and better life. What would have happened if all of those polish men and women would have been turned away? Some criticize that many refugees are only trying to exploit europe and they don´t need refuge and are only there for money and better life. That often sounds strange as if wanting a better life is somehow wrong or even evil.

The population in Poland is very homogenous and they have almost no immigrants or refugees there. Its a bit strange that often those people in that kind of places seem to fear immigrants and refugees more than people in those places were there are more of them (same in Germany for example). Then again Poland is slipping away from even resempling a democracy and isn´t that good place to live so maybe they are doing all a favour by not taking many refugees.

"Also a lot of people in this thread seem to be judging groups based on small sample sized personal anecdotes. How many of you have heard someone criticize islamic culture or islam as a religion? I would imagine that guite many. There is no point in criticizing culture/religion of about 2 billion people it only leads to huge generalizations that don´t match reality. And often those who are loudest to criticize something know very little about the thing that they criticize.

With regards to Roll, good for you! Vgchartz made something that was unknown to you a bit less unknown. Somehow this reminded me of that old  "vgchartz made me gay"-topic that someone made a long time ago :P

I'm black. I hate you Rol. I hate you so much. This site is not big enough for the both of us.

I dont think the bolded is strange at all. Like I said, some people value their national heritage more than others. Some nations value it more collectively than others. And some of these countries want to protect that heritage by restricting the people living there to those that share the same culture, or more often are children of generations of their country men. I don't see anything wrong with that nor that its inherently racist.

Wanting a better life isn't wrong, but it's not a right. No country has to guarantee you a better life or allow you to join because you want a better life.

Lastly, as I mentioned there are differences in culture. There are differences in polish immigrants during WW2 who were emigrating to a culturally not too dissimilar place. Not the same, but at that time not too dissimilar either. That's not the case with refugees in Europe right now.

And criticizing culture is based on large sample sizes actually. It's based on crime rates and other statistical factors as it relates to one group or another, and not a few people that one happens to know personally. You might see a two fold difference in certain types of crimes between one group or another, and yet overall obviously a small minority of people engage in it on all sides. Yet that difference is still significant on a macro level.

Good luck on your new site.

LOL

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Well idk what to say as I am not a black person. I mean my dad grew up in Iran and was (and still is) pretty racist towards black people, so I guess the society can definitely make a big difference. Its good to know you've grown up as a person and cast that part of you aside... then again, you are Rol so I have a hard time believing you as well.

And WTF is with that disgraceful excuse of an "avatar"?

Edit: Read it more clearly this time, and now I see a Rol post xd.

I think you are still racist to trolls... so...

Apology accepted. That must have been eating away at your conscience for a while now.

Anyway I'd wager most people in Austria are in fact not racist and don't hate black people. I know you said you were part of the racist group but i highly doubt over 50% of Austrians are.
