Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony first Party games sales, A huge leap from PS3 era. ( Entered Ninty Level ) Update: GOW at 10m & Uncharted 4 16M

Horizon Zero Dawn is 7.6 million?

Could of swore I saw all this week or last week some banner on this very sight saying it passed like 5 million or something. Is this site that far behind, or is that due to not counting digital? Does it really have 2.5 million digital?

Digital has really taken off.

Yeah Sony’s first party games have been doing amazing this gen. Helps that they’re actually good. The Last of Us’s number was the combined PS3/PS4 sales though, so let’s say the PS4 version sold about half, which is still amazing. Uncharted’s definitely at 10m by now.

I would've expect them to confirm it, if it was the actual case.

Might be short from the milestone though.

Well it did take ‘em a year to announce 500m PlayStations.

But yeah, there not even having been at least a nod from Sony or Naughty Dog about a milestone is a thing.

Longer development time means less top level games in the same timeframe. That's an absolute boon to first party content. Less competition translates to higher average sales. This is why I'm convinced that Nintendo does not want "full" third-party support. Microsoft missed a golden opportunity by not being ready for this generation.

Sony's strategy to release throughout the year rather than focusing on the holidays, which largely take care of themselves with third-party offerings, is also beneficial. People can pretend that only the holiday season matters but releasing high-profile content when the competition level is low not only increases unit sales, it buoys the entire platform.

Spiderman is up next to join that list, which is great for Insomniac too

Insomniac is first party?

Impressive, but Sony still has a long way to go before it will reach the mammoth sales of Nintendo software.

Those PS4 sales are still lower than Nintendo's 3DS offerings and a bit higher than the Wii U.

7.6m is the total of both Retail & Digital

you are correct about a post about around near 5m sales,it was on this site only

they most probably have undertracked it

Is last of us' numbers PS4 only? That's incredibly huge for a remaster

no,those are PS3-PS4 combined numbers

PS4 numbers of Last Of US stands at 6.32m according to VGCHARTZ

the real sales are close to 8-9m for PS4 version

Sony first party had already far surpassed Nintendo in terms of critical acclaim last generation (Hell even MS was more consistent than Nintendo last generation), it's only a matter of time before they do it in sales as well.
With games like Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us II, Death Stranding still on the way it seems all but certain.

Technically speaking not but they make so many games for Sony that I partly consider them as such. You don't always need first party studio's to make excellent exclusives. Ask MS with Gears and Halo both being made by studio's they did not own. Or at least tge triologies of said series.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
