From a branding/marketing standpoint, it's a TMNT cash-in at it's core, and was never that big at it's peak. It struck when the iron was hot and did what it did. I think it hit it's ceiling more or less. You can't manufacture nostalgia, and what's left after that? A side scrolling beat-em' up that, while it may end up being great, has no chance of elevating the franchise in any significant way.

Ok. But I wouldn't bet on it.

BattleToads has had many games, 4 to be exact with a bunch of ports on multiple platforms. Its not a 1 time IP that once done it cannot be done again (Cough SunSet Overdrive) type of game. Its Ninja Turtles but for the video game industry. Making a BattleToads game now does not mean they wont be able to make another in the future. It all depends on its popularity for the modern gamer. It can easily be done, much like it was in the past. The franchise has a monster amount of potential of becoming big again. And I simply cant wait. I am also not expecting this game to do wonders on the Metacritic system either nor does that matter to me. As long as its fun.

The way you put basically ANY game could be a franchise, so basically you don't have any evidence that it have a potential (hint, those previous games of decades ago weren't big sellers as well, even though they are cult hits).

Hmm lets see, Battletoads had multiple games, had actual toys, figurines, coloring books and even a pilot cartoon.. guess you didnt know that right?

I am pretty sure MS's intentions is to make this a big franchise again hence all the Kameo appearances and teasers.

Why do you actually care? I didnt think you game on Xbox..

It was again decades ago, the cartoon didn't aired and the merchandise I would bet weren't really setting the world on fire.

I'm sure MS would like to make it into a franchise, as most publishers would to any game it release, that doesn't make evidence that a game potential is to be a big franchise and considering the dev they are using it isn't like they are pouring 50M USD on the game production anyway. As much for the kameos, they only divulged a "title" at E3.

I could ask you this on all the threads you go about Sony and Playstation (I'm still waiting for you to present your trophies remember). I care about this game because I played it when I was a child. And I do play Xbox at my brother and friend house, even gifted him with Rare Replay at one birthday.

What does worry me about the new Battletoads is if it bombs sales-wise or review-wise, or even both, I hope that doesn't mean the IP is going to immediately be put back on ice for a long time again. It will have been 25 years since the last Battletoads game came out (1994) once this one releases in 2019. I've been hoping Microsoft go back to their older IP's for a long while because they are sitting on so many of them, which is why I was so happy to see Battletoads again. That and the IP is really unique and will be a nice addition to Microsoft's other first party stuff.

I hope Dlala studios can do a good job, since like a lot of you I had never even heard of them before until this as well, so seems like Microsoft is outsourcing the IP to a not really well known studio.

No one is saying the IP is a huge franchise now haha. It has the potential to be as BattleToads is just a great IP and one of my favourite IPs growing up as I own all there games. It was a franchise decades ago and fingers crossed it will be again.

Side note - I am going to be nice about this so please read carefully. Please stop asking for personal off topic things. PM me if you want to talk personal. Thanks.

I'd remind people that games don't have to be a homerun to be a good launch game. Take the SNES for instance. Were Pilotwings, F-Zero, and Sim City necessarily system sellers? Not really, but put them together with Super Mario World and you've got an excellent launch.

I wouldn't call it an excellent launch. Already 9 months since the Japan launch had gone by and all they had to offer were 3 games and a 2 year old C64/Amiga port.

I was under the impression you were claiming it was about certain because it was a franchise material for certain. Now if it is only yout opinion and wishes, them sure perhaps it will become no one can prove yes or no before hand and that is were you got us all confused.

After doing attacks you say you are going to be nice, how pretty of you.
