I was excited until i played the demo and was dissapointed... gameplay was boring and the opposite of compelling, and there was something about the story and lore that didnt click with me (even though i wanted to like it), it felt generic (and i dont like to use that word at all but i dont know how else to describe it).

I guess the best way i can describe this game is:

"what if one of those (many) generic animes we get every season was made into a game and it had boring gameplay".

I am not surprised. Nothing about Resonance screamed must buy. The Demo, the streams ... all looked totally average.

I was semi-interested in this one, until I realized that it was being made by the same people that did Valkyria Revolution. 

From what I've read, combat is clunky, the story and settings are very generic, and the game is extremely grindy. 

I've read a lot of differing opinions as well. And you're talking about Media.vision as the developers, so please put a little respect on that name despite Valkyria Revolution.

I've heard good things about the PS1 Wild Arms games.

That's good, because if they all shared your exact tastes, then we'd get shitty review scores for stuff you dislike all the time. It's good to have different reviews and reviewers who like different games. 

Fifa & Call of Duty would be in the 50's on metacritic :p
Zelda BoTW would be really high, same with Persona 5 & Horizon Zero Dawn...... oh wait, they already are :)

Still a good thing not every review is the same, and that we have good games that you may not like. Using meta to say "they are bad" just adds to poor form tbh.

You should know that Call of Duty & Fifa arnt in the 50's range on metacritic.
However Zelda, Persona 5, and HZD are all high (as Id rate them too).

I mostly agree with reviewers on alot of games.

It's pretty good. I never expected to enjoy it as much. The characters are likeable, the world is beautiful, and the music is absolutely amazing.

I've only ever played a handful of high fantasy games over the years - the last being Final Fantasy XII on the PS2 - but if this is considered "generic" then I've really been missing out.
