Forums - Gaming Discussion - A VR Survey

1.) Have you used VR? If yes, what headsets have you used? What did you like and dislike about it?

Mainly though not only PSVR. And it's far from what i'd actually need to be really convinced in terms of resolution, viewing angle, weight and comfort. What i like is the immersion as lomng as there's no immersion breaker, which happens pretty easy for me. Also, while i never get motion sick nor seasick or anything like that something like Robinson VR with free controls can nauseate me within ten minutes. And i really hate shit like teleporting.

2.) Are you interested in VR? Why or why not?

Not that much. It's a gimmick to me. Most of the stuff i play i prefer on a screen and not as 'locked out' from the world as VR actually is. And for the rest i'd occasionally play in VR it's way to expensive as well as not the tech level i'd want.

3.) Do you think VR will be popular in the future? Why or why not?

In mainstream gaming? Not within the next ten years. We might see VR die a second time, like in the nineties, though i think there will be a VR mainstream market one day.

4.) What games do you want for VR? What games would make you buy a VR headset?

Right now, nothing. I'd actually buy no game i can only play in VR.

About the headsets:
Full viewing angle and at the very least two 4K screens is the bare minimum i'd think about getting VR. That and they'd have to get more comfortable and way lighter than they are.

1.) Have you used VR? If yes, what headsets have you used? What did you like and dislike about it?

Yes. I have both the HTC Vive and HTC Vive Pro.

HTC Vive: First time using it I was amazed by the technology and how fluid and perfect everything works. I was really immersed in the experience and taking my time with the application to getting used to it. After some time of testing around I noticed some stuff that started to bother me. For instance, the resolution and the issue of reading text. And for having the standard HTC Vive, the HMD didn't probably sit on my head. So, by looking down, it would move upwards and everything went blurry. Also, I had to adjust the HMD on my head all the time.

HTC Vive Pro: So, because of the issues above, I got myself the Vive Pro. The higher resolution clearly made a difference and the screen-door-effect was barely noticeable. The HMD sits perfectly and solid on my head. I don't have to adjust it during the game anymore. The experience got a rank up. But sadly, the increase of performance resources leads to random frame skips in some games. So, I desperately wait for the next gen GPU's to resolve this.

2.) Are you interested in VR? Why or why not?

Yes, definitely. It allows you an alternate option of experiencing games. And by far a way more immersed one that TV /Couch gaming could ever do. You ARE in the game. Seeing Glados in her real size right infront of you can be really intimidating. You don't feel this by playing on the TV. Everything becomes a certain real aspect to it. Size of Monsters, the world and so on. It's actually really amazing. But it's not just that. They way you can interact with your world is also a huge plus. Playing multiplayer FPS and scaring you opponent so he accidently drops his gun to the ground is just hilarious. It's not just simple button pressing anymore.

3.) Do you think VR will be popular in the future? Why or why not?

Yes, because it has a huge potential not just in the field of entertainment but also in the industry and education. With the right applications and controller inputs, everything can be made possible. And companies are already doing their research in those fields.

4.) What games do you want for VR? What games would make you buy a VR headset?

Gal Gun VR...  XD I would try out everything so far. I got my multiplayer FPS games. But what I want to see would be a JRPG which is story focused and has a huge world to explore. I just don't wanna watch those characters evolve by looking at a TV, but I want to experience them first hand by being there. I would also like to see some animated movies for VR. I got Moss yesterday, and it looks really amazing so far.

I have PSVR and I love the immersion of the games but I can only play for about an hour before I get motion sickness. My favorite game is Resident Evil and I've been waiting for dreams to come out... I think that will be the game that will push VR since MM is a great developer

Interested? A little. My problem with the current tech is the amount of set up involved, and let's be honest, that will always be a limit for really hig quality VR, since you are trying to integrate fantasy space with real space.
Future of VR? I think VR has a limited future, until we have a huge shift in the tech lie no more headsets, it will always be a tv strapped ro your face. we have been strapping headsets tomour faces since the late 80s at least, and if you reach back far enough the first tv you could strap to your face dates to the 1960s! I feel it is pretty well proven mainstream audiences are not interested.
VR Games? Maybe a western rpg as one person said. I used to think a fighting game like Street Fughter would be neat when i was a teen, but now I tHink it is a perfect exampke of the limits. imagine the motion sickness doing Chun Li's upside down spinning bird kick? not to mention itis physically impossible to keep up with the moves of those characters.

How was it proven that mainstream audience is not interested? I would suggest, that most are not aware  of it's capabilities or it's too expensive for them.

First person Street Fighter wouldn't really work. But it could by viewing the fight from a bystander in the crowd controlling the character from there.

1.) Have you used VR? If yes, what headsets have you used? What did you like and dislike about it?

Yes, I used an OR while at a friend's house last year.

I liked the design of the headset, but disliked how it fit around my glasses and generally didn't like how it felt (Also not a fan of 3D glasses).

2.) Are you interested in VR? Why or why not?

Not really all that interested in VR, mainly due to the cost of the headsets, the lack of polish to said VR games, their limited capacity and scope for what VR games do, the headset not feeling all that comfortable, VR game exclusivity, VR headset exclusivity etc. I just feel really put off VR from where it currently stands.

3.) Do you think VR will be popular in the future? Why or why not?

I don't think it will be all that popular. We've had VR in the 90's and that stayed for a while and then vanished off the map for some years. We're now seeing the same sort of act, only it's been upgraded more and comes with a higher cost, with the games not being as polished, let alone close to AAA values.

If VR is to become popular, it needs to work and be cost effective for everyone who wishes to buy into it/try it. The VR industry needs to cut the crap with VR exclusivity, as well as locking said games to one storefront/headset/system. They also need to design the headsets better for prolonged use, as well as being perfect (and I mean perfect) for those like me who wear glasses (Seriously though, I fucking loathe 3D glasses).

4.) What games do you want for VR? What games would make you buy a VR headset?

At ther moment nothing. The games I want work fine for the traditional screen. an RTS in VR could be nice, but so far everyone who has tried to make one has always fallen short or screwed it up in some way.

I wouldn't exactly buy a headset for one game either. For an expensive VR headset, there would have to be at least 50 games to entice me to buying one, and all 50 of those have to be actual games, not gimmicks and small party titles, but polished and meaningful ones.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

1.) Have you used VR? If yes, what headsets have you used? What did you like and dislike about it?

No.

2.) Are you interested in VR? Why or why not?

Yes, I'm quite interested because I like to become immersed in virtual world. But Im not nearly as excited as I was two years ago, because since then VR hasn't catched on in the market at all.

3.) Do you think VR will be popular in the future? Why or why not?

It wont become popular. See Vivster's post above for sum good reasons. And if it had the potential for mass market it would have catched on much bigger by now.

4.) What games do you want for VR? What games would make you buy a VR headset?

I want games that play like a regular open world RGP on console or PC where I don't have to bother with special controls or cumbersum UI.
