GOW was ok and pretty easy to platinum but it honestly left absolutely no impact on me. In hindsight it was somewhat boring and repetitive. And the absent of boss battles compared to the insanely amazing, non-stop boss battles of GOW 3 definitely came to mind. And the switch to Norse mythology just felt awkward and forced. Personally it was an ok game but nothing innovative.

I skipped SotC because I played the original and PS3 HD remake. I couldn't justify the re-remake.
I've been on the border of buying Ni Nu Kuni 2 for a while now but the comments here are making me considering the purchase. The first one was fun.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but Detroit Becomes Human is my most enjoyable game this year so far.

I'm pretty sure the trolls were supposed to replace the reoccurring boss battles in the game, which is honestly kind of pathetic, lol.

You and I have similar tastes. I went from loving God of War and thinking it was the greatest game ever to not even finishing it. I was having a blast, enjoying side quests and taking my time. There was one moment that gave me goosebumps. Then, I returned from Hades (or whatever it was), got the cure, and then never bothered with the game again.

Meanwhile I find myself waking up at 3am to slip in a few minutes of Detroit before I head to work. While it isn't much of a "game", it really has me engrossed.

Sea of Thieves easily even if it isn't critically acclaimed. I've spent insane amount of hours playing it and it has been the most unique and fun experience. It has also improved my spoken English alot. And it's the only game my wife enjoys watching.

That being said, the GOW reboot served to establish a new world... I potentially see as an amazing sequel.

And we have similar tastes because we're old now :P

While Detroit has its flaws, it's story is more grounded than Heavy Rain. And it doesn't have as many glaring plot holes as Heavy Rain either. I also enjoy the consequences of the decisions you make. Even if it is just a slight change of dialog. In all honesty though, Connor's character is what makes the game so good for me personally. He stole the show. What a well written character.

Red Dead Redemption has a higher metascore then any GOW game so yeah again if RDR 2 is as good as the first one it will be better then God of War.

Metascore, lol.

Better score by pretty much anyone also so there is that.   Its just a better game overall on top of that it also has a very good online portion.  On top of all that Rockstar is a much better developer then Santa Monica Studios.  Also since all the Horizon games have been great Playground Games is also a better developer plus those games are also very good online.

Gratulation @ God of War. For many player the ultimate game (gameplay/story/characters/bossfights/atmosphere/sounds).

God of War GOTG
Dragon Ball FighterZ was amazing as well. I haven't bought a lot of games this year as I don't find most games appealing and worth their price. I'm still playing GT Sport and Forza Horizon 3 and stopped playing GT 6 this year haha.

Octopath Traveler looks interesting and my Switch has been collecting dust since Mario Odyssey so I'll get that but don't think it'll be better than either game.

The only game from 2018 I've played is Monster Hunter World, so that by default. My fav game I've experienced for the first time this year so far is Ratchet And Clank 2016.

Why is the great "Ni No Kuni 2" only number 4 ? A bit sad, I think.
Where are all the JRPG-fans here, who love big and beautiful adventures ? Of course it's not a masterpiece like Persona 5, but it's also great :) Let's see if Dragon Quest XI gets better in september ^^
