Forums - Sony Discussion - This is PSVR's Killer App

You needed PSVR to play RE7 in VR mode. RE7 wasn't a killer app for PSVR though. What makes this different? I mean, I'm open to arguments at this point.

I feel like a killer app for PSVR is a game that makes you go out and buy a headset. The VR mode for Dreams is exclusive to VR (obviously) and offers experiences that you wouldn't get without VR. I personally don't feel like a game has to be VR-exclusive for it to be a killer app. This game more than any other is making me for the first time seriously consider buying a VR headset :)

I think we have a different understanding of what a killer app is maybe?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. If a large chunk of the user-created content was VR-only, that would definitely move PSVR units.

Someone run this concept by me...so is this a game making tool or what???

I thought Dreams was just a level creator for a game, like LittleBigPlanet and Super Mario Maker.
Is it possible to create games from scratch?

LittleBigPlanet on steroids.

Another one I missed. Really wanted to play that when it was hot. My go to game right now is Mario Maker. I have the 3ds version which is cool but sucks that you cant share. What a stupid thing to do on Nintendos behalf. I'm very rarely disappointed with them but this one def does it.

Killer App and VR is an oxymoron. The world has shown that its still lukewarm on the idea of strapping shit to their heads and pretending to be inside of video games. The software isn't realistic enough, it's too expensive... maybe in ten more years when things improve. But right now, nothing is going to "put it over the top". There's no SMB1 or Pong that is going to ignite it.

I hope this is the case. I was messing around with SculptrVR last night for the first time, and it is incredible how easy it is to use, and make something, and I have no artistic talent. If Dreams has an even better tool set, I can't wait to see what people create in it.

There are so many opportunities to take advantage of the Camera, Move, and VR, that Dreams is one of my most anticipated pieces of software ever. If it is as good as they are saying, this can allow us not only to have community made recreations of classic Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo games, but also VR versions of of those classic games. I dream of Killzone or Halo recreated for PSVR in Dreams, or Mario 64, Mario Kart VR.

Now, just get us the beta already.

Ok, this won't be a Killer App for PSVR, because it's still available on regular PS4. No VR needed to play the game.

That's quite an odd thing to say. People don't play VR games because they're not available on the PS4, they play VR games because they're a completely different experience.

I want to make open world sandbox games with dreams from my childhood dreams . It's a dream comes true

No, but people do buy a new system, when they want an exclusive game badly enough. Case in point, Halo CE.

It doesn't work like that with VR. There isn't big enough competition as there is with consoles. Maybe one day but right now it's the experience itself that sells VR, not just the exclusive software. Case in point, the last RE which was also available on the base PS4.
