Next gen will also see massive increases in volumetric elements, the highest quality DoF, and much, MUCH higher quality geometric capabilities. This, all while aliasing should be a thing of the past...

Just way to blurry, not really impressed at all. We are really reaching a DR where ps5 games will probably just see a slight improvement compared to HZD, TLOU2 and Spiderman, many third-party titles I believe won't even beat them despite those game being on last-gen. Problem is that nothing has really beaten Crysis 3 yet except the unity adam demo.

The only developers I think are currently capable of truly next gen graphics are CDPR, Nintendo, and Sony's various studios. Nintendo doesn't make games on next gen hardware, and CDPR only has one or two game franchises. I'll wait to get a PS5 though, because I'm sure the first model will be poorly built just like the PS2, PS3 and PS4's first models.

Eh, there is actually very little blur used in either of those images (don't mistake blur for key points of DoF). Plus, it is a rainy scene (which would naturally reduce visibility in the real world - something that is lost in current gen games). And Crysis 3 was easily beaten by this gen's best looking games.

@Cerebralbore101 As for who's 'capable' of producing next gen graphics - there is no set company amount. Any one can create next gen. The techniques are simply improvements over what we had.

Not everybody has that sort of talent. And if anyone could do it, then every company should already be on par with CDPR, Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, etc. But they're not. So either a bunch of devs will suddenly do what Guerrilla did, and go from being good go being amazing, or only a select few companies will be able to make next gen shine.

It doesn't take a lot of talent to implement next generation features (which, again, are simply extensions of what we have today). To be an industry leading developer , yes, that is where talent comes in, but that side steps the point of the thread. It is much less about talent and much more about tech. What I showed above has far less to do with what I can do and much more a show of the tools available to me (which isn't even close to the best you'll get from next gen).

You're selling yourself way too short. Out of a class of 90 only about three or four people from my graduating class could model even on a 7th gen level. And that's after ten months of 3D modeling courses.

Hmm, the first picture just looks very unappealing. I think it's the Blur and light effects that causes this. The second and third picture is just a mess, again I think it's the blur, light effects and the rain that causes it. The rain on those picture just don't look good at all, in irl you can actually see through the rain, in those pictures the rain looks close to a blue paint.

I don't know any game that beats Crysis 3, I know you where impressed by Star Wars: Battlefront 2. This dude at gamespot made a detail analys how Crysis 3 beats Battlefront 2.

Crysis 3 wins everything except light effects. But I think people should play through the game before making a judgement. You should play Crysis 3 and Battlefront 2 campaigns, then judge. Crysis 3 will win easily :)

I've beaten both Campaigns (clearly you're newer around here). Crysis 3 was great in its day, but wasn't even the best looking game the year it released. Not to me, anyway. Against Battlefront II, it's not even close. Textures are behind, character models are behind, AO is behind and the list could go on and on. It is very much a last gen game, and while it remains beautiful, it has been been leaped over plenty of times since February 2013. Never mind even looking in BFII's direction. Besides, "some dude's" opinion on Gamespot is totally irrelevant here. :P

Yeah I agree, comparing the games when looking at youtube, SW: Battlefront 2 clearly beats Crysis 3. I think you (or atleat I) just get a different opinion when you play the games.

On an unrelated note, Macy has poor taste in beer.

I am alittle worried about Ray Tracing. Its becoming a thing now for PCs however next gen consoles i believe will not be ready for it. I just hope next gen consists more on 4k and the rest of the power utilised for Ultra details like water etc. If next gen tries to achieve Ray Tracing than i see this affecting preformance in our next gen games and power wasted in an effect that isnt worth the hit. Not yet anyway.

Consoles have already used Raytracing (GT5 used raytraced reflections, for example). It isn't anything new. The difference now is the dynamics. Consoles will struggle, at first, with the more advanced versions of it (as seen in Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PC). But, it's not something to worry about because it is a natural step in the science.

Besides, a lot of the reasons that some of the current games are having slight performance issues with it on PC is because they weren't built with it in mind. That won't be the case for long.

You sure you mean Ray Tracing in GT5 and not rasterization?

I can't find aything about GT5 using Ray Tracing.
