Let's go has the features of a mainline Pokemon, and it will surely be advertised as one. If people are overestimating it, how much do you think it will sell? 10 million is a lock in my eyes

Pokemon Go wasn't a mainline game yet it's the most successful pokemon game to date.

Are you saying a game based on the most successful Pokemon game of all time won't be successful?

The scary thing should be that Let's Go would be too successful that the main games will be treated as a secondary thing to The Pokemon Company. Similar to how Persona has eclipsed SMT.

Pokemon Go itself already affected the company outlook as they've been producing way more mobile efforts and reducing console games. Even the president himslef thought the switch won't be successful that was one of the reasons why the main games are late. They stuck around with the 3ds in 2017 despite Gamefreak having the NX devkit since 2015.

in the end of the day its looks like a iterative sequel, many pros that have played it say its smash 4.5, and many think its' a port based on the long gameplay presentation, it's not something thats blowing people away like mario odyssey and zelda BOTW.

Mario Kart 8 deluxe which is a port outsold BOTW and will most likely outsell Odyssey.

At the end of the day, it doesn't work like that.

There are plenty of games that do that. Just look at the recent Tomb Raider games, the Battlefront/Battlefield titles, EA Sports titles,  etc. All of these are based on the engines of their predecessors and many share assets with their predecessors. In the case of Smash specifically, why would you create a new graphics engine and assets when the Switch is not far more graphically powerful than Wii U?

I do agree though that if Nintendo wanted to reach 20 million this year, they should have had more big hitter lined up throughout the year (not just at the end), hopefully they have a more robust output in 2019.

I'm not saying it is wrong to use the same engine. The thing is every smash Bros episode are a leap in terms of graphics, content, characters. So there was obviously this kind of expectation for a smash Bros switch.

I'm just saying why this episode doesn't feel like a leap, why the game doesn't have the positive buzz it should have.

Personally, I think the series needs a complete overhaul, it's peaked with melee and since then each new episode have been disappointing.

The team used a new rendering engine and reanimated most, if not all, of the characters. As Sakurai said, their goal was to bring everyone back, to which most thought it wasn’t gonna happen. Did anyone believe Snake could comeback after what has happened? Did anyone see a point in bringing Pichu and Young Link back? People were even saying characters like Dark Pit and Lucina could get cut.

Their main marketing ploy is that “everyone is here,” while adding some newcomers like the Inklings, Daisy, and Ridley. That in of itself garnered great reactions as I’m sure you’ll see in various YouTube videos. And there is potential for more new characters.

And there are factors that impact the hype such as competitive players providing their opinions on things, which wasn’t as notable even during the Wii U/3DS days, and the fact that the Switch isn’t dramatically more powerful than Wii U so any dramatic changes in graphics isn’t going to be notable. People were thinking how dramatic can you go in terms of graphical overhaul.

You can say that the series peaked during the GameCube days, but apparently the sales don’t say so. Plus with the Switch being a more appealing system compared to Wii U by miles, it can bold well for Ultimate.

plus, Ultimate probably only showed very little of what it can provide in the final package. We haven’t seen any new modes or other new features, which they’ll likely save for a focused direct some time before launch.

To compare, why really did the PS4 sell so well? Real system sellers are only Uncharted 4, Grand Turismo Sports, God of War and maybe The Last of Us Remastered (and for the Japanese market there are some others). All the rest are no real system sellers. The big chunk of PS4's is sold because of the overall appeal: Great first party titles + virtually all third party titles. But each single third party title is not really a system seller. It's all of them together who sell PS4's. Granted, GTA V, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront, Assassins Creed, Fifa, NHL, NBA 2k, Madden, ... they do sell PS4's, a lot of them but why do people sell a PS4 for them instead of an Xbox One (or buy it for PC)? It's because of the overall appeal of the PS4 which is better than that of the Xbox One (and PC).

mario kart as a franchise has always been bigger then zelda, 3d mario, and smash, so thats not a surprise, it also got  nice boost by launching early when there nothing to buy on switch except zelda, and people were thirsty for new games especially around a new console launch with huge demand.

Nice moving goal post there.

We’re talking about ports. Mario Kart 8 deluxe isn’t a brand new entry. And yes it’s bigger than zelda etc that’s true.

But deluxe also outsold the original Wii U version.

And ok nothing to buy on switch? But why is Mario Kart 8 still top ten a YEAR LATER?

A port....

They could re release melee again on switch and it will still sell 15 million copies. Port or not port don’t matter it will sell regardless. i mean just look at amazon.

Mario kart will always keep on selling till a new mario kart  comes out, what i''m trying to say is had it come out at the sametime as mario odyssey, it would probably never catch up sales wise that was my point.  historically smash has never sold sold over 15 million, not even when you combine the 3ds and wiiu versions of the game. why would i look at amazon? it's never been good for software, and now its been off on hardware for 5 months.

Stating there is a problem is contributing to it? I don't see mods solving anything. It's always the same reply. Passive moderation ftw.

Stating there's a problem is one thing. You don't think there's a good discussion happening in this thread...fine, no problem. You didn't leave it at that though, did you?

"Only circle jerks allowed here"

Had to get that in there, take a shot at everyone who's participated in this thread, regardless of the quality of their posts, or their actual individual willingness to have an open minded discussion. If you don't see the irony in your post, maligning the lack of "great discussion," while simultaneously throwing everyone here under the same bus of being willfully obstinate, then maybe you're not even personally capable of great discussion.

Edit: Also, if you have a problem with the moderation on this site, bring it up in the moderator thread, or contact one of the head mods privately. This isn't the place for it.

I agree 1000% with all of this

Shipped?  Maybe

Sold through? Nope

And I do think that people over here are overestimating Pokemon.

My reasoning? Well, X/Y is the best selling Pokemon game on the 3DS and yet it only gave it a 7% increase YoY (allowing it to reach 14.4m that year).  And Sun/Moon was the second best selling game and it only gave it a boost of 2% YoY.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think the Switch will definitely be up YoY but not enought to make it pass the 18m mark for the fiscal year.
