Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Predict lifetime sales of Octopath Traveler

I think it will sell...

Less than 1 million 14 9.52%

1-2 million 79 53.74%

2-3 million 40 27.21%

Over 3 million 14 9.52%

Total:147

According to reports the game is sold out in Japan and is selling double what Bravely Default did in the UK, according to gameindustry.biz, so I'd say it'll do pretty well unless it has no legs.

Disappointing that Square didn't have enough faith in the game to properly supply it. Hopefully the shortages don't damage sales too badly.

Still expect your predictions to be correct?

It's getting a bit more buzz now, but I still don't feel optimistic. I'd be happy to see it succeed. I'm thinking now it should have no problem with 1 million, but 2 will still be out of reach, 1.5 might even be out of reach. Again, happy to be proven wrong here.

I'll go out on a limb and say over 3 mill. I really think there's more of a demand for these old school JRPG's than people realize. The newer ones for the most part haven't quite been the same.

Im' pretty sure I said 3 million earlier, so i'm sticking with that. It's selling out in many places and demand seems to be very high, don't know why people didn't think their was hype for the title...

I dont understand why all the options listed are so small. It's like you're just asking how bad will it flop. Yeah I know "over 3 million" could mean anything, but it doesn't allow for much detail. Over 5 million, over 10 million and over 20 million would be more reasonable options.

Uhm, 3 million, let alone 1.5 million, is not a flop for this kind of game. 1st of all, it's niche. 2nd, third party games don't usually sell more than 5 million on Nintendo platforms, so the options listed are reasonable. The last instance where I could remember this occurring pretty handily was back in the SNES era with Street Fighter 2.

It would be an anomaly for this to sell more than 5 million.

Bravely Default sold 1.4 million according to Vgchartz. I think it will sell at least double BR, so I'd say 3 million is the minimum it will sell lifetime.

I said 2m before, but I've got a good feeling about this one. I can see it doing 3.5m+ if the hype is maintained for a while (no big competitors on Switch for a while too)

Heh, given how the game is selling, it will most likely clear past 1 million in the first month alone.

This will certainly reach 3 millions LT.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

About 1.2 - 1.5 millions, because it already sold 110,000 in japan, and because there is a great market for nostálgic gamers and because its an exclusive game.
