So that would put them at over 600K Switches just sitting in stores unsold despite being constantly sold out.

Or vgchartz is overtracking the Switch.

Well no because Nintendo themselves stated that 7 million were with customers even though they've shipped 7.63 million and vgcharts has the number below 7 million with one week to go. This means vgcharts is pretty accurate on the switch numbers.

I hope to see solid numbers soon.

For now, PS4 has won 4 of this year's 9 months (January, February, May, and June), Switch also 4 months (March, April, July, and August) and SNES Classic 1 month (September).

If we don't count SNES Classic (which counting it doesn't make sense), Switch has won 5 months

That 7M was used in the sentence where they were talking about SMO’s sell-through numbers, which released on the 27th of October. So those 7M were as of the 30th of October.

Yeah but we’re not talking about the shipment numbers. We’re talking about the sell through number they reported when reporting on SMO’s sales.

are you saying vgchartz numbers are too high? nintendo reported 7 million, but it could be 7.2 or 7.4, but 7 million was just a milestone.

They would have reported to the nearest 100,000 as that’s what they did for SMO. And VGChartz has the Switch reaching 7M at the end of September so, yes, I think they’re overtracking it.

Sure, if we don't count SNES Classic, Switch won September as it outsold PS4 by ~9,000 units.

The 7m must be as of 30th September because this number comes from the ir event about FY17/18 Q2 earnings , sales performance, e.t.c presentation by president to investors.
Super Mario odyssey sell-through number is bonus information because it happened to be released in the time interval of financial results announcement, so it had to share more great news with investors.
Nintendo wouldn't give a hardware sell-trough figure as of a month that belongs to FQ3 to an event about FQ2.
Anywise, there is a 2017 sell-through chart about 3ds in the report and they mention that is as of 3rd of October, the last day of 5th week of September.
