the profit actually rose 2.2% to 126 billlion yen.

the fiscal year ranged from april 1,2006  to  March 31,2007.

since the PP of ps3 has already dwindled below the break even point expect incomes to rise this quarter from the gaming division.

Some people could easily be fooled into thinking that SONY actually ended up in a net loss last fiscal year.

Well, in 6 years of the PS2 Sony CE have made cumulative profits of ¥265 billion, while in 1 year of the PS3 they have already lost ¥232 billion. That is how fucked they are. I just thought I'd mention that.

@ larry Yes and microsoft is still making a profit totally. But as reverie has pointed out their gaiming division is losing a lot of money for the moment. So no FUD is not debunked

ps2 caused SONY 200 billion yen in losses in the 1st year of its launch.

xbox caused MS 7 billion USD in losses till date.

the 2 billion in losses accounts for the high R&D of Cell and BD player.

My god I can't believe I'm doing this but I am actually going to agree with larry on this one. SONY is not in trouble, they make money, the gaming division lost money, but the PS2 didn't become profitable until the 3rd or 4th year from what I can recall. Just because they are losing now doesn't mean anything they aren't going anywhere this sounds like people down talking the PS2 against the Dreamcast... that didn't happen. YES it's COMPLETELY different this time, (although 360 reminds me SO much of Dreamcast) but Sony isn't going anywhere. Sorry.

Not true. Sony CE lost only ¥51 billion in fiscal 2000 (Annual Report of 2001), the first year of the PS2 era. MS losses are as you described, but don't matter here because the Xbox is not a successful business Sony should copy.
