Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Wii Reaches 7 Million

Nintendo Wii: Almost 7 million units sold
Xbox 360: Over 10 million units sold
Playstation 3: Over 3 million units sold

Good news for Nintendo fans, okay news for Microsoft fans, and not so good news for Sony fans.

What do you guys think the future has in store for these consoles?

Dont link to nexgenwars. 360 is not near 10 million yet, let alone at 10.7

XBOX LIVE Gamertag: QuantumTarntno

Crackdown - Enchanted Arms - Oblivion - Samurai Warriors 2 - GRAW - GRAW2 -Lost Planet - Guitar Hero 2 - Star Trek Legacy - Double Agent - WWE 2007

Wii 4237-4425-6442-7626

Mario Party 8 - Rayman Raving Rabbids - Excite Truck - Zelda: Twilight Princess - Godfather - Wii Play

Yeah, I dont think you shoudl be using another website that estimates sales to post here. Its just not good Karma. Anyway, that site is more for Xbox360 fanatics, because it posts units shipped instead of units sold.

The data on that site is not accurate if you check through the site source code u will c that they are just incrementing the values by a specified figure ever second This is a bit of the source code function show_count() { x360_count = x360_count+0.6166; ps3_count = ps3_count+0.4083; wii_count = wii_count+1.1166;

Oh, come on. The numbers on the site may not be accurate at all because of the way the data is collected (shiped vs. sold, sources, etc). But clinging to the auto-update thing, and showing javascript code like you're on to something, is plain silly.

Have you never heard of stats like McDonald's opens a new restaurant every three hours? You really think they do that, every three hours on the clock? It's an average, people!

The same thing could be done with sales data on VGChartz, and as long as the data was good, and the numbers and assumptions where corrected when approriate, it would be neither better nor worse with an auto-update than without.

The reason people bring it up is that it's just a trick used to give the site a false sense of credibility.  "Hey look, the numbers just went up!" But really the actual numbers themselves aren't based on any credible data and they're going up just because they always do that.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well, to me it never did give me any special sense of credibility. Actually, if anything, seeing it go up real-time immediately tells me it's an estimate at best, cause real-time worldwide sales measured in units or tens of units are obviously impossible to get, and I'd expect anyone with half a brain to figure that out all by himself.

Plus, I really can't fathom why would anyone be shocked at this, particularly in a site dedicated to sales discussion. I mean, projecting current sales into the future is "what we do". Needless to say, there's a news article in the front page doing just that right now.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting the said site or anything. I also don't think it's good taste to crosspost numbers between sites unless it's to seriously compare the (de)merits of each aproach. Never like this, obviously, as if they were some sort of "hidden truth". I'm just saying this's probably far from being the said site's worst fault.

Wow... your discontent for nexgenwars is pretty serious. If you ever take a second to click on "where the numbers come from" they specifically say that all the numbers are estimates and definitely make no mention of the automatic updating numbers as being some sort of counter that adds a unit everytime a certain console is purchased. It is used as an average... as someone who posts on both forums, I can tell you that the hate for nexgenwars here far exceeds the hate for VGchartz over there. Not to mention, calling there site innacurate when all their figures are within something like a million of yours doesn't exactly benefit your sites credibility very much..

Well first off, it's not my site, I'm just a volunteer mod. And secondly I don't hate it, I just don't see it as being a credible source.
