Forums - Sales Discussion - What does jp really want PS brand games proof inside.

After looking a little bit online i realized that the games on these charts only have around 500-2500 votes for each game.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

So we're comparing an unestablished franchise to one of the biggest selling franchises in history, which hasn't had sales below 2 million in 15 years? Not that Musou did bad (if you want bad, look at anything Koei's released on any non-Sony platform in the last decade).

And were;re talking about a system which hasn't had a single game pass the 300,000 mark in Japan ...

Oh, that makes sense then. My bad. You've shown me the light. The other one game they're releasing every month are all of the same caliber. Madden is HUGE, and if it failed, I predict FFXIII will sell 200 copies in its first week.

Unfortunately by the time that FF13 arrives in Japan, even if it sells 2M and a PS3 with every one, it'd be too late for it at the rate the Wii is going there.

Like it or not, FFXII has an fair chance of selling less than 1/2 of the previous FF game. It WILL drive PS3 sales, but not to the extent that FFX did.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Ah the Famitsu falacy. the belief that Famitsu is Japanese for Japan. This isn't Japan's most wanted, it's a magazines most wanted. Now that isn't to say that these aren't highly anticipated games or that they won't do well. But it also isn't a weathervane of Japanese game sales.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'll elaborate for you then ...

The Final Fantasy series has never been released for a home console which wasn't already the dominant console on the market in Japan; the Playstation and PS2 both sold over 5 Million units in Japan before Final Fantasy was released for these systems. Now, the PS3 is currently one of the slowest selling videogame consoles of all time in Japan and will be lucky to sell 2 Million units before Final Fantasy is released; at the same time, high quality sequels on the PS3 (Virtual Fighter, Ridge Racer) are selling at 20% of the level that the previous version sold on the PS2. From what we have seen, there is reason to believe that Final Fantasy XIII will sell far below expectations but it is nearly impossible to say how far; the retorical question I asked involving 500,000 units was choosen because 500,000 units would be considered a smashing success for some games (Blue Dragon for example) but would be considered a massive falure for Final Fantasy.

Bringing up Gundam Musou was to demonstrate how the Famitsu weekly most popular chart does not reflect the views of the gaming public in general. Gundam Musou was highly placed on Fimitsu's weekly most popular chart since it was announced, Hyped to sell like Final Fantasy, was reasonably well recieved (33/40 in Famitsu is considered a very good score) yet only increased PS3 sales by 30,000 units and sold 275,000 copies of the game.

Certainly, the games on that list will sell well but I suspect that even Final Fantasy XIII will not sell like Final Fantasy.

Can anyone say how many PS3s will be sold before FF13, hell no so all your talk on FF13 sales is just opinion. What we know is a price cut will come and sales will get a big boost on Xmas. Also games will drive sales, if a mediocre game like Musou can push 120k PS3s in a month so will other software. - any one got a Japanese game release calander of 07 ?

Who says Wii will keep selling at the same rate forever and who says PS3 can't catch up to it later in the console race?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Although it could be marketing talk, Sony has stated that they're not looking to cutting the price of the PS3 in the near future; if they follow the pattern of the PS2 the PS3 will see its first price cut over 24 months after it was released in Japan.

Obviously, this list is subject to change and will see additions after E3 and TGS ...

When you look at the list what is obvious is that there are practically no games with solid release dates (the December 31st release date means the game is expected to release in that year) for 2007 that will sell systems ...

Musou didn't push 120k, it pushed about 30k over the normal PS3 sales at the time.  Musou is not mediocre, and it was a very highly anticipated game.  Consider that VF5 was only able to make PS3 sales go up by 3k when it was a game that sold 750k on the PS2.  In fact Ridge Racer 5 sold 750k on PS2, VF4 sold 750k on PS2, while their next gen counterparts sold around 130k each.
