Shane said: Anyone who tries arguing against the potential success of any of the PS3 games on that list fails. There may be some question as to just how many units those games will sell, as well as how many PS3s they can push out the door, but we know they will be successful. |
Well it depends on how you define "Success" ...
Would Final Fantasy XIII be considered a success if it only sold 500,000 copies in Japan? The truth is success and failure are largely determined by expectations ...

"This is all expected to change with the release of Gundam Musou, the highly anticipated collaboration between Koei's Omega Force (known for the Dynasty Warriors series) and Namco Bandai. Consistently on Famitsu's most wanted charts since it was first announced two months ago, Gundam Musou is the game that will drive PS3 sales in Japan (at least until Final Fantasy XIII arrives). Gundam games are extremely popular in Japan, but this one is special; it matches the Dynasty Warriors gameplay (which is also quite popular there) with the Gundam universe. It's guaranteed to sell a lot of units (Namco Bandai states it expects to sell over a million copies of the game), and certainly push hardware sales for Sony. "
"1UP: Gundam Musou has consistently been on the Most Wanted lists in Japan since it was announced. Some people have even gone so far as to say it's the most important game for PS3 this year. How does that make you feel? Did that add a lot of pressure?
YH: There's always a lot of pressure involved in developing a Gundam game. We really felt it this time because of the game's budget and the fact that we were developing it on next-generation hardware. Plus, we were borrowing the Musou brand and using Omega Force staff to develop our concept, which added to the pressure. We're very pleased that this has led to Gundam Musou being called one of the most important PS3 titles, and we hope it'll help to expand the PS3 userbase in Japan."
With all of the build-up do you think that Koei considers the 275,000 units sold of Gundam Musou a Success?
