I wouldn't say total defeat. They are bringing over their service and tapping directly into Steam's usertbase with it, much like how Ubisoft did before, where they wanted Steam's pie, but required the use of their client, making them double their own userbase and customers.

It's annoying as hell to me, because I can see what they are doing, and I find it half scummy, but at the same time I definitely see the business sense in them doing this, because not only is EA Access on Origin, but now it's on Steam, their own IP's are cheaper on Origin compared to Steam (once that Steam sale ends). Combine all of that, and you have EA practically tapping on you shoulder, saying; "hey, don't you wanna use our client?, we've got EA access and our games are cheaper here too!".

I'm not a big fan of their idea though, because I want quality services and prices lower everywhere else, not just their client, because we all know they set the prices of those games of theirs over on Steam. But like Ubisoft, Bethesda and Blizzard (may as well toss EG in there too), they don't seem to want to improve their clients anymore.

They tried to build their own store and services and keep all the money for themselves, but they couldn't do it and now they're stepping back. First allowed the Humble Store to sell Origin keys and now they're back on Steam with everything they have.

They lost and now are trying something different.

If you're going to delay it, why not wait a bit longer to have PCIe5.0 and DDR5?

PCI-E 6.0 is about to enter pre-ratification soon... To put it into perspective it will be 64x faster than PCI-E 1.0. Nuts.

But, for the general user, PCI-E bandwidth is a non-issue, SSD's might benefit as they tend to be limited to PCI-E 4x lanes, but I highly doubt if the average user would notice a difference between 2.5GB/s of SSD bandwidth and 10GB/s in day to day operations.

Very true, PCIe 5.0 may not be all that necessary right now, but DDR5 could bring more noticeable improvements, specially with the improved density.

Asus's X570 Strix motherboard apparently said f it and they decided to update it's 256mb BIOS to support all AM4 CPUs even going back to the Ryzen 1000 series. So if you are crazy enough to buy a new X570 motherboard but want to run Ryzen 1000... Now you can!

I'd just upgrade to Nvidia's 3000 series and then wait until DDR5/PCI-E 5.0 assuming they are coming in the same generation if you have a good pc setup already. Cause both Intel and AMD's new cpus feels like foreplay to the real sex that will be with AM5 and Alder Lake S.

Now as a saying goes, if you wait for every new tech, you will be waiting forever... But I'd say that if you already have a really good PC and the next gen games will take a couple years to really take advantage of the new technologies, waiting until 2022 isn't the worst thing in the world.

Once again, we reach Friday and the last rounds of news for the week:

SALES & DEALS

Overcooked is, once again, free to own on Epic Games Store until June 11th
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/overcooked-is-once-again-free-to-own-on-epic-games-store-until-june-11th/
Epic Games has announced that Overcooked is available for free on Epic Games Store. From today and until June 11th, PC gamers will be able to visit the game’s EGS page and acquire their free copy.
This is a bit surprising as a leaked roadmap hinted at ARK: Survival Evolved being this week’s free game. Not only that, but Overcooked was available for free on Epic Games Store in July 2019.

Dragon Age Inquisition, Need for Speed, and more EA games are now on Steam, and on sale
https://www.pcgamer.com/dragon-age-inquisition-need-for-speed-and-more-ea-games-are-now-on-steam-and-on-sale/
In October 2019, Electronic Arts announced a new partnership with Valve that would bring EA games to Steam (and in some cases, bring them back). The process began a couple weeks later with the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but today the first big batch arrived—and they're all on sale, too.
Update: Electronic Arts said this is the first wave of more than 25 games that it has coming to Steam, and that future games developed for PC will also launch on Steam alongside other storefronts, beginning tomorrow with the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, which will have mod support through the Steam Workshop.
>> Here's EA page on Steam with the discounts.

The Black Lives Matter Support bundle has raised $43,000 and is still going
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-black-lives-matter-support-bundle-has-raised-dollar43000-and-is-still-going/
The Black Lives Matter Support Bundle on Itch.io has raised over $43,000 for the Black Lives Matter Foundation and the National Bail Fund Network so far. Hosted by the developers of the action-arcade game StarCrossed, Contigo Games, the bundle includes 20 games from 18 different indie developers. The page's description says that the total amount raised will be split equally between the two organisations.
The Black Lives Matter Support bundle launched earlier this week and raised $5,000 within the first 2 hours, going on to raise $31,000 in the first 24 hours it was live. Contigo Games has since increased the bundle's goal to $45,000 and currently, 1082 people have contributed.

Classic RTS Total Annihilation is free to keep on GOG this weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/classic-rts-total-annihilation-is-free-on-gog-for-48-hours/
GOG is giving away classic RTS Total Annihilation and its expansions this weekend, letting you take a trip back to 1997, when humans and AI duked it out with hundreds of vehicles and robots.
Total Annihilation was a big leap for the genre when it first appeared, upping the ante with its massive scale, realistic physics and true line of sight. Its legacy might not be as visible as Command & Conquer's, but there have been several attempts to build on it, including Supreme Commander, newly-arrived to the store.
>> And that's not the only free game because once Steam does its daily refresh, the game The Uncertain: Last Quiet Day will be free during the weekend (you may already have it because they already gave it away for free not too long ago): https://store.steampowered.com/app/406970/The_Uncertain_Last_Quiet_Day/

The Humble Store has a new sale featuring 2K with up to 75% discounts during the next 13 days: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/2k-week/

Fanatical has two new deals, and all the bundles from BundleFest are already available, so check them out!

Definitely worth a double dip just for the ability to play online again.  I've pretty much given up paying for online, but I do miss playing Bloodborne online.
