One of my most anticipated games of the year.  Can't wait.

It's premise is certainly unique.

And it's also interesting how popular are Metroidvania games nowadays, specially given the little love that publishers have given them for years.

Publishers go after the big bucks.  The Call of Duties, The Battlefields, or whatever other trend is on top.  I think fans of Metroidvanias are very vocal, but don't compare to the sheer number of mainstream gamers who eat up the yearly iterations of the big blockbuster titles.

Fuck, I love metroidvanias though.

It's the biggest problem the industry had during the transition to HD with the PS360, they forgot the A and AA games and put all its efforts into AAA games. And Metroidvania games don't fit that class.

Thankfully the situation has changed a bit, for the better, and there's also the indie scene on PC (and later, consoles) that hasn't forget about these "niche" genres.

Agreed. It's a major reason I look at the 7th gen with such...disdain.  It the era which moved the industry towards a mainstream (and a much lower risk) focus, and killing (well, not killing, but definitely reducing to afterthoughts) a lot of game genres and studios in the process.

I'm glad things really opened up in the 8th gen so that what was once mainstream can now at least thrive in the indie world.

Time for the last news of the week... and also the last ones before the E3pocalypse:

Anthem is 50% off in the Origin Infinite Gaming Sale
https://www.pcgamer.com/anthem-is-50-off-in-the-origin-infinite-gaming-sale/
EA is hosting another Infinite Gaming Sale, shaving up to 60 percent off a big pile of games, including Battlefield 5 and Anthem. The former's been discounted by 60 percent, while Anthem's 50 percent off.
Those are some pretty big discounts for what are still fairly new, big budget games. Neither matched the—admittedly high—expectations EA had for them, though by the standards of most games a lot of people picked them up. I've seen physical copies of Anthem going for less, but I've not seen it cheaper for this on Origin.

On the Humble Store there's a Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege free weekend, with a 50% discount on the basic game and up to 60% off on the higher editions: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/rainbow-six-siege-free-weekend/

At Fanatical, there are three new sales:

Friday news, part two:

Greedfall E3 trailer shows off its colonial story
https://www.pcgamer.com/greedfall-e3-trailer-shows-off-its-colonial-story/
Greedfall, Spiders' colonial RPG, has a new trailer that gives us a glimpse of crisis going down on this magical island. Take a gander above.
It's an interesting one, is Greedfall, putting you in the shoes of a new settler seeking a cure for a disease on a magical island. It's an unspoiled place with its own inhabitants, so of course there's a conflict.

Larian was shot down the first time it wanted to make Baldur's Gate 3
https://www.pcgamer.com/larian-was-shot-down-the-first-time-it-wanted-to-make-baldurs-gate-3/
Baldur's Gate 3 is being developed by Divinity: Original Sin developer Larian Studios, and the pair seem like a good fit. Larian's been designing RPGs for decades, with its most recent games almost feeling like digital tabletop adaptations themselves. But when Larian first approached Wizards of the Coast about making a new Baldur's Gate, the studio was turned down.

https://www.pcgamer.com/my-friend-pedro-the-game-about-a-banana-who-wants-you-to-kill-comes-out-on-june-20/
My Friend Pedro is a 2D sidescrolling action game about a guy in a gimp mask who commits mass murder because a banana tells him to. To be fair, the guys he kills are trying to kill him too, but it's impossible to know who started it, so is it really self-defense? I honestly can't say.

Breaking Bad-style RPG Family Man is getting a final beta soon
https://www.pcgamer.com/breaking-bad-style-rpg-family-man-is-getting-an-open-beta-soon/

Time now to check the deals at GOG and Steam for the weekend:

+GOG

+Steam

That's all for this week. Next week, with the stormy that is E3, I'll most likely change the format of the news (to make it a bit more bearable) to just the headline and the link to the article. Otherwise it will be Hell.

But that will be next week. Until then, have a happy and gaming weekend.

Diablo: Hellfire expansion added for free on GOG

Diablo, which was recently released digitally for the first time on GOG, has now been joined by its non-canonical expansion, Hellfire. I confess I'd forgotten all about it, but enough people wanted to replay it that Blizzard has allowed GOG to throw it into Diablo. It's available as a free add-on for everyone who picks up base game.
>> The game is part of the Summer Sale, with a 10% discount.

I can't believe it. They. Did. It.

How did they manage to convince Blizzard to release what they considered an abomination that they wanted to get rid off forever???

Don't know if this has been posted here already? I've not seen it mentioned anywhere but it was posted on the AoE site about a week ago. Aoe2 Defintive Edition will be playable at e3 on the show floor, probably won't be shown at the conference then.

But they've also said it will have new civilizations! Pleasantly surprised that there's going to be some new content too, thought it might just be AoE2HD + DLC with better graphics.

I hadn't seen that before, so thanks for sharing!

Truth be told, I had forgotten about these definitive editions, and I already have AoE2 HD and all its DLCs, so I don't think I'll get the D.E. either.

But I sure hope they finally show AoE4!

Has it been posted here yet regarding the first month of XBOX Game Pass PC for only 1 dollar? Considering the leaks and rumours about the lineup (I won't mention here due to people wanting to avoid spoilers, but it's easy to find) and the cost going forward, I've taken the plunge and subscribed.
