Gosh, amazing trailer for BotW 2!
Loved the dark tone!

BTW, after searching, reading and watching analysis of the trailer all the day, I've come with some interesting comments and theories:

1. As many have guessed, I also belive the dead corpse is Ganondorf.
2. I think that at the end of the trailer when we saw the castle going up, maybe the malice will cover Hyrule and could transform the kingdom into the "dark" version. I remember people believing BotW was going to have a dark world version. Could this be the one?
3. Others have said that maybe the quake will fracture the terrain and we are going to see a lot of differences through the land, being caves the most prominent difference compared to the og game.
4. This is the most interesting one: the green magic that is holding the corpse, may be magic or sheikah tec. Once the corpse get free, Link may absorb that magic/tech in his right hand, and it could transform into different things as a replacement of the sheikah slate. Let's remember that one of the concept art shared by Nintendo was one with Link and his right hand as different weapons.
5. This is just an observation on my part: we saw during the trailer that the magic hand is holding the corpse, but at some point we see the same hand holding someone's arm. What if, the hand holds Zelda as a replacement of the evil corpse and we have to save her? Or maybe is Link the trapped one?

Anyway, I expect the game to come, at the earliest, holiday 2020, but most likely march 2021. 4 years after BotW.

Things to note from the trailer first take:

- Link's core mechanic is going to be something to do with his arm, what ever that ethereal arm holding who is assumed to be the main antagonist is in place surely gets passed on to Link as it's seen in a scene appearing to save him.

Yup, pretty much this.

Now does this mean the sheika tablet will become useless ? Probably for some story reason.

I'm actually expecting the castle to get transported into a new land of sorts where Link has to rely on this new found ability.

The tablet belonged to Zelda who likely gets taken so it's most likely a case she had it when she was separated from Link.

Looking forward to the Breath of the Wild sequel and Link's Awakening!!

While BotW 2 is definetely the big news, the dungeon maker potential in Link's Awakening totally stole my attention.

So, when do you folks expect BOTW 2? Late 2020? Early 2021?

Um... late 2021.

Really? Four years and a half to a game reusing the same assets? This is slower than Square Enix...

I'm with mzuzek on this one, if it was coming next year they would've said so, as they'd have gained a ton of hype from that.

There's nothing to indicate it will come out in 2020; it still doesn't even have a title nor have they shown any gameplay.

Thankfully, until during the wait for BOTW, this time we have plenty to play in the meantime.

I'll repeat to you then.  It could be that they don't know if it'll be ready in 2020.  Let's say the team has a goal of 2020, but the schedule is tight, it's obviously a huge game, and it could easily slip.  Nintendo makes no promises that they have to walk back.  Nintendo's been very good about keeping a realistic schedule and have delayed only three titles from a promised timeframe in the Switch era.  And two of them and it's quite possible that two of them were/will be ready to go, but held back do to scheduling logic.

Basically, I'm saying that the lack of a timeframe isn't really evidence one way or the other of when it will come out.

As for gameplay.  Why would we need that?  We can just play Breath of the Wild.  All they can add are specific new mechanics which can be announced any time.  It was probably the reveal in least need of gameplay at all of E3.

If it was slated for 2020 they would've said so, there's precedent for them missing release windows.

And gameplay would show how it differs from BOTW, why its not just the same game again.

Sorry, but there's nothing to back that up.  Nintendo's conservative with their release windows these days.  Could mean something, could mean nothing.  None of us know.

And people are expecting and cool with it being basically the same game.

There's nothing to back up that it's coming before 2021, but the lack of even a title and the fact its only a teaser are clearly signs it is a long way off.

But I know from experience that you don't debate in good faith, so there's no point trying to discuss this with you. See ya.

I mean, if I remember right, we had the title for Yoshi's new game only 6-7 months before it's release, I'm pretty sure they could announce that during another trailer at E3 next year or a bit earlier.

I didn't say there was.  I'm clearly expressing an opinion that's agnostic on which year it would come out.  All I said was that we don't know and that the lack of gameplay in a reveal trailer for a game over a year away that is using the same engine and assets as a previous beloved game doesn't mean anything.

Apologies for my rudeness, I was too quick to hit "submit" on this one.

I don't rule out the possibility of it arriving in 2020, I just don't think its likely, especially given this is Zelda we're talking about and Aonuma just today spoke about the team taking their time as opposed to back in the day when Majora was made very quickly.

That being said, I would love for it to come out in 2020. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Wrong, BotW 2 was announced with "now in production" which is a later phase in the development process than "now in development".

No.

And I stand by my point. If your game has a chance of coming out next year, you state as much in the trailer. It gets more hype, simple as that. You only don't put a release year on the trailer if there is no chance of it coming next year, because at that point a "2021" is just lame.

No need to put a date. 90% of people are pumped. It's mostly people who just want to hate on Nintendo that will nonstop bring up date.

Besides, giving a date and then later a delay is way worse than no date.
